BeSMART treat

Congratulations to Mrs King’s class for winning the BeSMART cup!

I am incredibly proud of their growing resilience in writing and improved proof-reading skills. Keep up the hard work!

We will be going on a small nature walk tomorrow afternoon to observe seasonal changes in trees. Children will begin to identify deciduous and evergreen trees.

As part of this we will spend time in the play area for our treat. Please ensure children have waterproof coats and comfy shoes :)

Year 1 & 2 craft club

We have loved watching your skills and confidence grow in the last 5 weeks :)

Please see some of the skills we have taught through the exploration of our Chinese New Year theme!

We have added to our dragons each week.

  • Year 2s were great at helping our year 1s draw around hands and cut out the tricky gaps between fingers.
  • We used cotton buds to print dots along our dragons’ bodies.
  • They have split pins to help them move.

We hope you like our super cool New Year dragons!

Last week we also worked hard to improve our painting techniques. We know how much paint we should have on our brush.

Year 2 – changes to timetable

Good afternoon,

Just some updates to Year 2 this half term.

Monday 20th November, we have a Guy Fawkes day – children do not need anything extra but will hopefully come back with lots to tell you about our history day.

We have our cinema trip Wednesday morning therefore PE has swapped to Thursday afternoon. Children will therefore need PE kits Thursday and Friday next week and normal school uniform Monday-Wednesday.

In year 2, we alternate outdoor learning every half term. We completed outdoor learning before half term, therefore, we do not have another outdoor learning session until after the Christmas holiday. We will have outdoor learning again in January but until then please do not send any kits in.

NATIVITY
We are SO excited to start rehearsing our Nativity!

Children have all been given a part. We have tried to give most children a speaking part and have sent scripts home for them to rehearse. Can you insure these remain in reading diary packs as we may need them to practise in school?

We will send details out about costumes at a later date but will help children with any part of the costume that is difficult to source.

If you wish to discuss your child’s role, please email via the year 2 address (newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk).

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

See you Monday,

Year 2 team.

Nature Walk 13.11.2023

Good morning,

Year 2 are going on a Nature Walk this Monday 13th November. We apologise for the late notice; we are having some difficulties with posts not loading.

The weather is looking clear in the afternoon, when we are planning for the walk, but children will need warm, waterproof coats. We will be sticking to footpaths, however, children can bring wellies or comfortable footwear to get changed into after lunch if you prefer.

Enjoy your weekend!

Many thanks,
Year 2 team.

Happy Thursday!

Just to let you know the year 2 teachers are very proud of their classes today!

They both worked so hard :)

Cześć from Year 2!

Flag of Poland - Wikipedia We loved learning about Poland during European Languages Day!

We practised some greetings like:

“Cześć” (Hi/Bye)

“Jak się nazywasz?” (What is your name?)

“Nazywam się… “ (My name is…)

We then designed our own Polish pottery. We loved the circular patterns and bright colours.

Changes to timetable next week.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had to move our timetable around because of our sports coaches’ availability. Therefore, PE days are now Wednesday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor).

Forest school has also had to move to Tuesday afternoon.

We apologise for any disruption this may cause.

Thanks,
Year 2 team.

Welcome back Year 2!

The classrooms and teachers are ready, and we are so looking forward to seeing you back in the classroom soon! We hope you are feeling excited, looking smart and ready to get started :)

Here’s some information to remind you about year 2:  Year 2 Welcome letter 2324

Just a reminder that PE days are Mondays and Fridays.
Outdoor learning is on Wednesdays – remember we go whatever the weather so be prepared!

Year 2 team :)

RSHE year 1

Good afternoon,

Tomorrow and Thursday year 1 will be learning about how their body is different from each others’ and how they are changing from reception to year 1.

This will be focusing mainly on observations like, “They wear glasses but I don’t,” or, “I have freckles and some people don’t.”
“I can tie my shoelaces now,” or, “I get myself dressed for school now I’m in year 1.”

The only non-statutory learning will be names of male and female private body parts, which we will complete tomorrow.
We will teach them by reading the following book with children.

After reading, we will explain that when we talk to certain people (like doctors or teachers) we should try to use proper scientific names but we can use the other names if we forget.

At Newdale, we feel this learning is essential and can help safeguard our children.  Children who know the correct words can, for example, better explain where a medical problem is to a professional. If you opted to withdraw your child from this lesson, they will be complete separate work naming other body parts (e.g. stomach, or arms, fingers). However, we cannot guarantee that their classmates will not discuss what they learnt with them.

Thanks,

Year 1 team

Final FUN Monday!

Year 1 will be having lots of fun on Monday 24th July!

Our STEM day will be an exciting day to end their time in year 1.

We’re starting the day with mindfulness colouring, an obstacle course, and a bubble making science competition.
