Easter Family Fun

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say a huge well done for making it to the end of term and all of the hard work you have been doing at home. The Den staff are all so proud of you!

We will not be setting formal work for the next two weeks but feel free to choose from any of the family fun activities below:

  • Have an egg hunt around your house or garden.
  • Base some Easter cookies or cakes- see Evie’s photographs for inspiration!
  • Hold an egg race against your family- who is the winner?
  • Watch an Easter film (e.g Hop).
  • Build a Den inside or outside.
  • Have some egg-speriments (egg experiments) how high can you drop an egg without it smashing? What can you find around your house to protect it from damage?
  • Eat chocolate!

As ever, don’t forget to save your photographs to the school blog- we love to see what you are getting up to.

Easter cooking fun activity

Hi everyone,

Here is Miss Plimmer’s eldest daughter Evie being resourceful- she was given an early Easter egg as a special treat and she decided to melt it down to make chocolate Easter nest cakes.

All you need is:

An Easter Egg

Weetabix (or any other cereal in your cupboard)

Cake cases

Evie loved breaking the chocolate into pieces to put in a jug and breaking the weetabix cereal down in a large bowl. She added the melted chocolate to the cereal mix and then placed into individual cake cases. She then put them in the fridge to chill.

They were delicious!
What other fantastic Easter themed cooking can you do at home?

Remember to post your pictures to the blog for us all to see.

Make Your Own Playdough Recipe

Good afternoon all! Although I have aimed this at nursery, I think all families may like to have a go!

Today, I have recorded an easy step by step playdough recipe using ingredients you may well have at home. Have a little look at the video below and see if you can make your own! I find making playdough with the children almost as fun as playing with it.

Please take extra care when using hot water – grown ups to do this bit.

The ingredients you will need are as follows:

1 cup flour

1/4 cup salt

3/4 cup of (hot) water

3 tablespoons lemon juice (this is substituted cream of tartar)

1 tablespoon sunflower oil

Food colouring (optional)

You may need to add more flour once your playdough has been mixed. Keep kneading until you get to a soft texture. You can also add scents such as conditioner/vanilla essence etc to create a nice smell.

I have also attached some playdough mats you can use once your playdough is ready and cooled down (if you have polly pockets you can pop them inside).

If you do not have access to playdough tools, how about using children’s toys. Small world figures such as dinosaurs make fabulous prints!

You could also use the playdough for letter or number activities. Let your imagination take over!

I hope you have found this useful. Take care
