Now retired, I can dedicate my time to Newdale and there is nothing I enjoy more than visiting the school and working with the children, staff and parents at this creative and innovative school. We wanted Newdale to be at the heart of the community and as the school has grown we have been able to provide wider opportunities for everyone. Newdale School and Nursery are always searching for new and better ways for our children to enjoy their learning journey, develop their independence and resilience. I Chair the Finance and Personnel Committee and am proud to still be involved with such a caring and hardworking school. My term of office expires in September 2022.

I was elected a co-opted governor in January 18 and my term of office will run for 4 years. I currently sit on the safeguarding and health and safety committee.

I now work for Shropshire Council in support of the Armed Forces Covenant, assisting the military community, liaising with service charities, local businesses and organisations.

My background has been in Health and Social Care, having been a nurse for 15 years, a nursery keyworker and a families support worker. I have also previously been a governor at Secondary and Primary School level.

Having been in and around the Military for the last 35years, I have a strong understanding of the challenges that families can meet.

I feel very privileged to be part of Newdale School, and look forward to providing help and support where I can. I hope to meet with many of the pupils and parents over the coming years.

Amy Newport- Co- opted Governor

miss-a-newportI am a Year 2 class teacher who has recently joined the Governing body at Newdale in September 2016.  I have worked at Newdale since 2010 and I think it is a fantastic place to be.  All staff here go above and beyond to give the children at our school the best opportunities, experiences and education possible.  In addition to this I am also the parent and pupil voice lead, which entails carrying out a range of questionnaires and talking to the children about their views and opinions of things that happen in their school.  I really enjoy this role and work together with staff and children to make any changes to improve Newdale even further.  I am looking forward to sharing my parent and pupil voice findings with the other Governors so we can use these to influence any decisions made.

I am also a designated safeguarding lead (DSL) in school and so I have joined the Safeguarding and Health and Safety committee.  I feel honoured to be able to bring ideas to these meetings and work with the other Governors. My term of office ends on September 2020.

Jacqueline Wordsworth – Co-opted Governor

Mrs J WordsworthI am a retired Her Majesty’s Inspector of Schools with a wealth of expertise from many years of inspecting schools. I have also been a headteacher prior to becoming an HMI. My special interests are leadership and management, safeguarding, phonics and reading.

I feel very privileged as a parent to be given the opportunity to assist and contribute in not only Newdale as a school but also the development of all our children now and in the future.

I was sppointed as a Parent governor by the parents on 1 Feb 2017 for a 4 year term.

We have link governors for the following areas:

Literacy, Numeracy, Pupil Premium, Early Years, SEND (Special Educational Needs), Gifted and Talented and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural, Information Communication Technology, Health & Safety, LAC (Looked After Children), Child Protection/Safeguarding and Continuous Professional Development.

Message from the Chair of Governors.

On behalf of the Governors at Newdale Primary School and Nursery, I welcome this opportunity to briefly introduce you to the work the Governing Body undertakes to ensure that your child(ren) will receive a relevant and exciting primary school education.

The Governing Body has a range of powers and duties laid down by various Education Acts. In the main these responsibilities relate to:

Setting targets and promoting high standards of education.

Setting the strategic framework within which the school operates.

Management of the school’s delegated budget.

Ensuring that the curriculum for the school is balanced and broadly based.

Ensuring that Health and Safety and Safeguarding policy and procedures are followed and embedded.

Governors discharge the above responsibilities, together with many others, through a Governing Body meeting each term. These formal meetings are supplemented by a series of additional sub-committee meetings dealing with more specific issues within the school. In addition, Governors are invited into the school on a regular basis during the working week and can make further visits to the school to meet with children, staff and parents at a convenient time for the head teacher, staff and parents of the school.

Governors adopt, review and monitor a range of policies that govern the operation of the school including Health and Safety, Behaviour, Curriculum, and Performance Management.

We believe that the school draws a unique strength from its belief that our community matters and our commitment to high expectations for all is at the core of everything that we do

The Governing Body is, therefore rightly proud of the achievements of the school, not only in terms of its academic achievement, but also in the solid foundations it provides in preparing all our pupils for the remainder of their formative education.
