Thank you and Easter Reading Challenge

Dear Year 2 Parents/Carers,

The Year 2 Team have been really pleased with how children have returned to school this half term and would again like to send out their thanks for all of your support during this time and over the lockdown period.

We have received a few messages from parents asking how they can further support their child at home. Thank you. The message we are sending out is please read, read, read. Becoming a confident reader is so important and as your child progresses into key stage 2 next year, reading becomes increasingly more important still. We recently posted out about the school’s new ‘Bug Club’ subscription, which allows your child to access a large range of reading books at their current reading level. The program also offers comprehension questions for yor child to answer after they have read a book. We are not setting any additional homework over Easter, but we do ask that children keep up with their weekly reading. When the children return to school, we will of course award reading rewards and raffle tickets. 4 weekly reads earns a football. 5+ weekly reads will result in a football and a raffle ticket being awarded.

Alongside reading, we would also like children to continue to access ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’. The children have responded brilliantly to this program in school and the game allows them to access certificate rewards, house points and ‘Rock Star ratings’ in a fun way.

If you are unsure of your child’s log in for either Bug Club or Times Tables Rock Star, then these can be found in the back of their reading diary.

Once again, many thanks for all of your support. Have a fantastic Easter.

Many thanks,

The Year 2 Team
