We are segmenting again today by trying to get  Bob and Obb back together again.  To help reunite the aliens the children have to listen to a given word and segment the sounds and then type them.  Each time they spell a word correctly the space ship will move closer.  Do please help your child whenever they need you to for example, if there is a “c”, “k” or “ck” sound, they won’t know which one to type.  Good luck in reuniting the Obb and Bob on phonics play “space race” phase 2 level.

Happy Monday!  This week we are we are going to look at how we segment the sounds in words for example you know that “cat” is made of the sounds “c”, “a” and “t”.  In the first activity the children are asked to listen to a word and then segment it (use the pat the arm technique) and then type in those sounds to make the word.  They may need help to find the correct sound on the keyboard if you have one that shows capital letters.  The game is called “rocket rescue” on phonics play (choose phase 2 level) and each time they spell a word correctly they build the rocket until eventually it takes off.  Good luck with rescuing the rocket!

Today’s challenge is slightly different.  I would like you to select “flash card speed trial” on phonics play.  You can at this point chose all of phase 2 or select a mixture of sounds that your child does and does not know.  When you start the game your child shouts out the sound (they like that part!) and if they are correct you press the tick if not press the cross.  At the end your child receives a score showing their time to get through all of the letters and how many they got correct.  If you record this at this point you can then revisit this game and explain to your child their challenge e.g. if they got 15 correct last time can they get 16 this time?

It’s funky Friday nursery, it’s also the first day of a new month. We are sending lots of love your way whilst you continue to do such a wonderful job learning from home.

Some of the nursery team are experiencing technical issues currently with the evidence me app.  One possible solution is to ensure that everyone using it at home has agreed to the latest update.  Hopefully, in that way we’ll be able to view and respond to your observations.

Morning!  Today I would like you to extend yesterday’s activity (pick a picture on phonics play) by creating your own words to go with real objects.  Please could you start by collecting some objects with very simple names such as hat, cup, pen, bag (you will only need about 4 or 5).  They need to be words in which each sound can easily be heard.  When you have done this ask your child to write each word on a slip of paper, help them to sound out each letter carefully using the pat and stroke the arm technique.  Once they have created a label for each object can you mix them up and see how quickly they can match them to the objects.
