Year 2 Spelling activity – Monday 11th January

Hi all, today we are going to practise reading and spelling our homophone words.

First print and cut out the homophone word cards that match your spellings (or make your own if you prefer).

Homophones flashcards – 11 words Homophones flashcards – 8 words Homophones flashcards – 6 words

Game 1: Lay all of the cards out on a table face down…no peeping! Take turns with another member of your family to pick up a card and read it. If you read it correctly first time you get to keep it, if not, put it back on the table and better luck next time. The winner is the person with the most cards at the end.

Optional Game 2: Print/make 2 sets of cards. Lay them in two separate groups face down on the table and play the ‘Pairs’ game – choose one card from each set, if they match and you can read them, then you get to keep them. If they don’t match you have to put them back on the table. Winner is the person with the most sets.

Activity 1: ‘Look, cover, write, check’ – ask an adult to show you one of the flashcards for 5 seconds, they then hide the card while you write the word. Now check. Are you right? If you made a mistake, then be the teacher and correct it.

Remember to have fun while you learn!

Year 2 Spellings – Friday 8th January

Hi all, today is spelling test day. Yay I hear you say! Can you please complete your spelling test of the ‘le’ words that you have been learning at home and then email your score to newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk. Good luck!

Next weeks spellings are all homophones (these are words that sound the same but have different meanings). Below is a link to a funny ‘Homophone Monkey’ song. How many homophones can you spot in the song?

A copy of your homophone spellings can be found here.

Remember to choose the correct page to practise. Those of you that work with Miss Newport or Miss Jones for spellings need the sheet with 11 words, those of you that work with Mrs Thomas or Mrs Horler need the sheet with 8 spellings and those of you that work with Mrs Fullerton need the sheet with 6 spellings. If you can’t remember which group you are in then just email us at ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’.

Remember to practise your spellings every day and complete the daily activities that are posted on the website.

Happy spelling!

Year 2 Spelling activity – Thursday 7th January

Hi year 2,

Here is todays spelling activity. Can you find all of the ‘le’ words in the wordsearch? Remember that you only need to do the wordsearch that matches your spellings for this week. If you are unsure which one to do then just send us an email and we’ll remind you.

le wordsearch 5 words le wordsearch 7 words le wordsearch 10 words

When you have found them all, have another go at ‘Look, cover, write, check’ like you did yesterday. Were you better today? Did you spell more right this time? If not, don’t worry, just keep trying.

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog. Thank you.

Year 2 Spelling activity – Monday 7th December

Jumping Orange Words.

Hi everybody, to help you learn your spellings today we have got two puzzles for you to do. The first is a wordsearch (I know you love doing these!) and the second is a Word Scramble sheet. Can you unscramble the letters to make your spelling words? Perhaps you could test one of your grown ups by scrambling one of the words yourself for them to unscramble.

Year 2 – Mrs Thomas’s Phonics Group – Monday 7th December

Hi all, today we are going to play an online game to help us practise using all of our Phase 5 sounds. I hope you haven’t forgotten any. The game is called ‘Phonics Frog’.

You have to help the frog to cross the road by clicking when it is safe and then cross the river by jumping on the logs that have real words written on them. See how far you can get your frog without hurting him/her.

After you click on the play button, click the ‘Revise all’ button (shown below) so that you get to see words using lots of different sounds.

Have fun and look after your frog!

Year 2 Spelling activity – Thursday 3rd December

Hi all,

For todays spelling activity we would like you to use your spelling words to write lots of different numbers. For those of you learning the number words 1-10 then look particularly hard at those, e.g. if writing the number 46, then test yourself, can you spell the word ‘six’ without looking at the sheet? For those of you learning the number words 10-100 then look carefully at those, e.g. if writing 46, see if you can spell ‘forty’ without looking at the sheet.

Happy spelling everyone!

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog.

If you need paper copies please contact the school office.

Year 2 – Mrs Thomas’s Phonics group (Split Digraphs) – Wednesday 2nd December

Hi phonics group,

Today we will be continuing to practise reading and spelling words using the ‘u-e’ split digraph.

Below is a link to a fun online game. All you need to do is spell a ‘u-e’ word to match each picture that is shown. Good luck!

https://games.galacticphonics.com/longvowels/u-e/interactive/uespell/uespellt.htm

Top tip: If you are not sure what the picture in the game is showing you then click on the ‘list’ button and it will show you a selection of words to choose from.

How many of the 10 ‘u-e’ words did you spell correctly?

Year 2 Spelling activity – Wednesday 2nd December

Hi all,

Todays spelling activity is the ‘Dice Bingo’ game. Some of you have played this before but some of you haven’t so here are the instructions for how to play.

1) Print off a bingo board for each player (each player’s board looks the same).

dice game – number words 1-10 dice game – number words 10-100

Remember to choose the board that matches your spellings for this week.

This one is for Mrs Thomas, Mrs Horler and Mrs Fullerton’s groups.

This one is for Miss Newport and Miss Jones’s groups.

2)Take turns to roll the dice (if you don’t have a dice then I have attached a link below to an online one).

https://www.online-stopwatch.com/chance-games/roll-a-dice/

3)Whichever number you roll, you read the word next to that number on your board, highlight it or colour it in and then copy the word on the line underneath. It is then the next players turn.

4)If you roll a number that has been rolled before then read the next word along on the same line.

5)The winner is the first person to colour a line going either across or down. Remember to shout BINGO!

Please email a photo of your work to ‘newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk’ or post on the school website year 2 homework blog. We’d love to see who won!

If you need paper copies please contact the school office.
