At Newdale Primary School, inclusion sits at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about ensuring that every child receives the right support they need to reach their full potential, with early intervention, high‑quality provision and support from external professionals guiding our practice. We also place great importance on listening to the voice of the child and building strong, collaborative relationships with parents, ensuring that our SEND provision is shaped by shared understanding, trust, and a commitment to achieving the very best outcomes for every learner.
Our staff all share a collective responsibility for SEND, recognising that every teacher is a teacher of SEND.
‘Pupils with SEND are identified early. Teachers make adaptations so these pupils can learn in every subject and sometimes excel. The SEND coordinator regularly checks that pupils complete work which helps them to learn well.’

We follow the guidelines set out in the 2015 Code for Special Educational Needs: for 0 to 25 years:
- Involving children, parents and young people in decision making.
- Identifying children and young people’s needs.
- Greater choice and control for parents and young people over their support.
- Collaboration between education, health and social care services to provide support.
- High quality provision to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND.
- Supporting successful preparation for adulthood
Special Educational Needs (SEND) are categorised into the four main areas of need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Some children with SEND may experience difficulties in one or more of these areas. When this happens, we identify a primary area of need alongside any additional factors that may impact the child’s access to learning, ensuring support is tailored to their individual profile.
We are a proud PINS (Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools Project) school.
From the 2025/26 academic year, we are taking part in the PINS project which helps to strengthen whole school SEND provision, upskill school staff and strengthen the relationship between school and parent carers. At Newdale, we have benefitted from support from occupational therapists and a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) specialist who have both carried out audits, delivered training and provided coaching sessions to staff.
