Arthog info

Good evening,

We’ve had a few requests for information off parents who couldn’t attend the meeting last night.

Unfortunately, to safeguard our pupils, we cannot send the presentation out as it contains pictures of pupils.

However, you can find all you need on https://www.telford.gov.uk/aoec/site/index.php/.

The trip will take place between the 10th and 14th October this year and will cost £250 to be paid in four instalments. The deposit (£100) is due on 31st May, with three further £50 payments due on 30th June, 31st July and 31st August. If you have concerns about this or feel that you may be eligible for support, please contact the office directly.

The other key piece of advice given last night was that children should pack their own bags (with support) so they know exactly what they have and where it is. Kit lists are provided by school whilst most wet-weather gear is actually provided at the centre.

Mrs Thomas explained just how brilliant instructors are at putting even the most nervous children at ease without making a fuss in front of others. The instructors at Arthog are very experienced professionals who will ensure all pupils are happy, safe and get the very most out the trip. Nervous children can opt out of activities; instructors will help them enjoy the site in a different way (e.g. scrambling over some low boulders nearby whilst the others are climbing).

I hope this helps with any queries!

Have a wonderful Easter holiday and happy Ramadan to anyone celebrating too!

Miss Harrison.

Parents’ evening

Good evening,

We will be sending out a letter for you to book parent’s evening slots next week.

We’re very pleased to announce that the meetings are face-to-face in school as COVID restrictions now allow. It is a first come first serve basis so please check your children’s bags or reading diaries for the letters and return your slips as soon as possible to get your preferred time.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Kind regards,
Miss Harrison

Be S.M.A.R.T cup treat!

Miss Harrison’s class had a fantastic afternoon as a reward for getting the Be SMART cup! They included each other in games and it was great to see those who don’t always play together enjoying each others’ company. We make a great team and did a wonderful job in demonstrating the value of the month ‘Caring’.

Children earned their treat for fantastic behaviour on our trip. Ed (the trip leader at Severn Valley Country Park) was blown away by their vocabulary knowledge; their enthusiasm and engagement in learning; and their considerate, courteous attitudes.

Well done everyone! I am so proud to be your teacher this year and know you truly earned this treat :D

Trip Volunteers

Good afternoon,

We hope you have received the emails about our trip to the Severn Valley Country Park in Alveley, Shropshire.

We would love to take a parent volunteer to help out with each class. We will leave school at 9:20am and return at roughly 3:30pm. If you are able to help on one of the days, and don’t mind the potentially cold/wet conditions, can you please contact the office or email the year 5 team.
Tel: 01952 387720
Email: newdale.year5team@taw.org.uk

Miss Harrison’s class will be visiting on Monday 31st January.
Mr Banfield’s class will be visiting on Monday 7th February.

The trip will involve a lot of walking and, because of the time of year, it may be cold, wet and muddy conditions. Therefore, we are asking that children wear own clothes, for example:
– thermals/tights under trousers
– waterproof coat
– lots of layers (such as vest, long sleeved top and fleece)
– wellies/walking boots and thick socks
– spare socks/shoes for the journey back
– a hat and gloves
– a rucksack with a drink and lunch

Children will learn lots of Geography in two sessions lead by park wardens. Session 1 is orienteering (where children use an OS map to navigate around the park to find marker). Session 2 is a river study (children will walk along tributary streams, use floats to measure the speed of the stream at different points, and observe erosion and deposition).

Many thanks for your continued support,
Miss Harrison
