World Book Day in Miss Hill’s Class

Across Year 1 and Year 2, we split into houses and visited each teacher to take part in a different Julia Donaldson themed activity. We made a moving book cover, paper dolls, maps of a story setting and we explored floating and sinking.

This afternoon, we did ‘Stop, drop and read!’. We all chose somewhere in our classroom to get comfy and read.

What a busy day it was!

We can’t wait to hear what book the children will choose with their voucher.

Year 1- Dog Visit

The children in Year 1 had a wonderful time meeting Ernie the dog today.

They learnt how to care for a dog and were able to feed and stroke him.

Next week, the children will be writing their own non-chronological report about how to look after a dog. We can’t wait to read them!

Here are some pictures below:

Year 1- PE Days and Forest School

There will be no forest school next half term (it will resume again in Summer 1).

PE days will continue to be on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor).

Don’t forget, you can contact the Year 1 team via the Year 1 email: newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

We hope the children have a restful half term and we look forward to seeing them when they return.

Thank your for your continued support.

Year 1- Miss Hill’s Class

We have had a brilliant week this week in Year 1.

In Art this half term, the children have been learning about Andy Goldsworthy (a sculptor inspired by nature). This week, the children have used clay to design and sculpt their own snail shell inspired by Goldsworthy.

Here are some photos below:

The children also had a great time this week, learning all about the Great Fire of London through a drama workshop.

The children enjoyed their BeSMART treat this week, playing with their toys from home.

Be-SMART Cup – Miss Hill’s Class

Year 1 have had a fantastic week!

They have listened really carefully and worked hard.

The children have decided they would like to bring a toy in on Thursday 8th as part of their Be-SMART treat.

E-Safety Top Tip – EE Phone Smart App (Aged 10 onwards)

Did you know that EE have recently partnered with child experts and charities to create the PhoneSmart Licence for children aged 10 and above. It’s a fun, interactive and educational course to help children who have just received their first smart phone learn how to stay safe and be kind online, and to encourage them to use their phones for positive reasons.

The PhoneSmart course is split into five episodes, where children can follow four engaging young characters as they get their first phones and embark on their online adventures. Each episode covers key aspects of online behaviour, from cyberbullying to fake news and has fun quizzes, interactive elements and pop-up facts to help children learn about online safety.

As a parent or guardian, you also get your own Dashboard. A place you can easily log in to check on your child’s progress, follow the Episodes they are doing and get extra support and resources. You can always access your Dashboard from the navigation at the top of the page.

With every completed episode, your child will earn a sticker. Once they’ve collected all five, they will have earned their PhoneSmart Licence and can download and print it off. If you unlock all 5 stickers,  you can enter into a prize draw to win an Xbox Series X.

Here is the link below if you wish for your child to take part. Please note that the app has been created for children aged 10 and over. Parent – Homepage (eephonesmart.co.uk)
