Y4 Reading at Home- Please Read

Our school has recently acquired an online reading programme called Bug Club that we’d like to share with you.

What is Bug Club?

Bug Club is a finely-levelled reading scheme, which ensures that all children can find books at exactly the right level for them. We have many of these books in school already along with the Oxford books. However, with Bug Club, we are investing in the online versions for every printed title and a personalised website for each child.

Please encourage your child to use this resource and take part in the quizzes to check their understanding. They will be assigned books at their current reading band colour. Children’s logins can be found in their diaries.

Below you will find key information about the scheme and how you can get involved. We hope that you and your child will love these books and enjoy reading them at home.

Y4 Homework Changes- Please Read.

We will be gradually moving towards more digital homework over the next few weeks. You may have already seen the website post about spellings being on Google Classrooms rather than printed in diaries. In line with this, we have recently purchased an additional feature on Times Table Rockstars, which allows us to use the website to set and track homework. This will replace paper times table homework as of next week. Mr Bevan has assigned homework for this week on Times Table Rockstars as we transition from paper to digital (please note your child still has their paper times table homework too). Please encourage your child to log on to see what their homework task is.

Many thanks

Music Videos- Details on Google Classroom

Oh What a Year! Music Video

Mr Wilcox is beginning to collect and edit the videos for a fabulous music video involving children from Year 4, 5 and 6, but he needs your help! All you need to do is video yourself singing along to the video. You could choose a verse, belt the chorus, or smash the rap. If you are really ambitious, you could sing the whole song along to the backing track.
If you have not done so already, please send your video to your year group’s email address. Ours is newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk.

For your chance to appear in a music video, get your videos in by 6pm on Wednesday 10th March 2021.

PE Days

Monday and Thursday

Please ensure your child comes into school wearing their PE kit on these days:

Social Distancing

Please remind your children about the importance of social distancing (including with their friends and members of staff). We have protocols in place to ensure that it is safe for children to be in school and its very important that children ensure they play an important role in this too. To ensure the classrooms are well ventilated, windows and doors are left open for periods of time to generate a good air flow; therefore, please ensure that your child brings their coat into school, as well as their jumper, cardigan or fleece.

Lunchtimes

Weather permitting, Year 4 will go into Basecamp during their lunch times next week (they will eat their lunches in class). If you’d like your child to wear a change of footwear, please provide these for them.

Reading Diaries

Due to limiting contact with high-traffic items from home, diaries will be collected in on a Friday and returned to children on the Monday (please note your child will not have their diary at home at the weekend). This will mean that they can be quarantined over the weekend before we handle them. Online platforms such as Fiction Express can still be used over the weekend if required. If you need to speak to a member of the Year 4 team, or have a message for us, please use out Year 4 email account: newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk. Unfortunately, we are unable to have conversations at the door due to ensuring the flow of parent traffic is effective.

Many thanks for your continued support. We cannot wait to welcome back all the Year 4 children.

See you all soon,

The Year 4 Team

Y4 Reading at Home

Hi Everyone,

We hope that you have all had a good half term.

This half term, we would really like to see that everyone is reading regularly and completing their virtual reading diaries. Well done to those children who have already been doing this.

For this week’s Star of the Week, Mr Jackson and I will be selecting our stars based on reading at home.

When filling in your virtual diary, you can record reading comments based on books from home, Fiction Express or from Oxford Owl. Remember Oxford Owl has reading books which link to the colour banded books we have at school. Your parents will need to sign up to this free website to access the books. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

The whole year 4 team cannot wait to read your reading comments.

Y4 Art Day

On Monday 8th February, we will be having a whole school Art Day. Please see ideas for how your child can take part in the day at home in the attached document. We look forward to seeing photographs of work uploaded onto this post, via email or on the Y4 homework blog on the website. Please note that we will not be setting other work for today, apart from the completing of spellings, reading and practising of times tables on Times Table Rockstars. We will not not be having live TEAMs lessons on this day.

Have fun! We cannot wait to see your creations.

PS. If you do not have access to colouring pencils/pens, your child can complete artwork using ‘2paint’ on Purple Mash and submit their work that way.
