Cool Cat visit Nursery

Nursery had a special visitor this week😻
Cool Cat has been popping along bright and early everyday, even to breakfast club! I think he smelt the milk.
And the children couldn’t have been more happier to see him with cuddles, high fives and a cheeky little pat on the head well done.

It’s certainly prompted the children to come into school and nursery on time.
One parent said ” she’s ran all the way here today trying to catch this Cool Cat, normally I have to carry her half the way ”

Thank you for getting them to nursery on time we know it’s not always easy to get them up and out the house.

Have a lovely Bank holiday weekend and we’ll see you all bright and early on Tuesday ❤️

The party animal man

What a lovely welcome back treat this was for nursery, a little visit from
‘The party animal man ‘ who was absolutely fantastic !
He talked to the children all about the importance of not being frightened of these animals and insects, how to look after them and where in the world they are from. Most if not all of the children were keen to stroke and handle them, which really impressed Simon. He was very surprised to how eager and caring they were towards the animals he brought along with him, and my did he bring a verity! From cockroaches, chinchillas, bearded dragon, Spiders, frogs and probably the biggest snake I’ve handled, so heavy!

Simon wasn’t the only one impressed this week, our whole team were with our new little starters in Mighty Oaks who have settled right in. We appreciate your patience with us on such a busy week but I do hope by now you have met your child’s key workers. If not please do not hesitate to ask to meet them at the gate if you’re unsure to who this may be.

All relevant information and messages about up coming events and important dates to remember will be posted on here, our main website
( Newdale school ) over text or on our message board outside the entrance.

Thank you again and I can’t wait for a new exciting summer term looking at the over arching theme of
‘ under the sea ‘ 🌊🐬🐠⛴

Tuesday 18th we welcome you back

Tuesday 18th

We do hope that you’ve managed to have a lovely Easter break and some quality time together with your little ones.
We would love to hear about any little adventures you got up to whether it be a little walk, a trip away, or family celebrations. Please send us any photos and a brief description on the evidence me app of what you were doing/ going to so that we can share these with your child’s groups.
Hearing them talk about family time and seeing/ sharing photos is so important to us, we value every special moment that is memorable to them.

We are very pleased to welcome back one of our own Miss Chloe Angus into Mighty Oaks where she will be with Orange group who are very lucky to have her she’s a wonderful mommy and a fantastic, valued member of our team!

Easter celebrations

” No matter what the weather brings,
we play together” ☔️🌈❄️

As we look back at Winter and all that it brought along with it. The elements and the new starters, we start to see growth, not only in the children but the new beginnings of nature.
We’ve welcomed Spring in by planting flowers, vegetables and Celebrated Easter by making Easter nest chocolate cakes, decorating special cards and going on a little hunt around the garden.
Have a lovely Easter break, see you soon. 🐣🍫

Stay and play for Mother’s Day and Red Nose Day 2023

What a truly wonderful treat it was to see all of you who were able to attend the Stay and play sessions for Mother’s Day !
We know time is precious with your little ones and work commitments can be hard to juggle such time, so thank you for coming along. The staff and children had a really nice time and all week they’ve been very busy behind the scenes making cards and things for you to come home with, hopefully saved for a very relaxing and treat day on Sunday. ❤️💐

Also today being Red Nose Day we brought out the silly noses and a splash of Red for the occasion. We’ve talked about why we are doing such things raising awareness that not all children are so lucky as ourselves. The day has been filled with colouring, games and dancing. 🔴🕺
Hope you all have a nice weekend and thank you once again for your support on both days!

Lost property

Please have a look through the lost property box outside of Mighty Oaks. Below are two teddies looking for their owners.

World Book Day and Safety week

” The more you read the more you know, the more
you learn the more places you will go”
Mighty Oaks 🌳
Celebrating World Book Day this week by dressing up and listening to the children’s favourite stories. On the day we made our very own book marks and had a look at some of the online videos of stories from this years Early years WBD Authors.📚
We’ve been talking about safety when walking by roads. They’ve followed the ‘ Stop, look and listen ‘ rule when role playing in the garden and on a little walk around the school grounds. 🚦🚶🏾
Following on from safety we talked about people who help us, some of those being the police. We were very lucky as we know they are busy to have a visit from our local CSO’s who gave the children a little talk about what they do and a look around the police car. 👮🏽
In our PE session with Cross Bar the coaches revisited what we had previously learned over the term, putting their listening and remembering skills into practice. 🎾
We thank you so much for your wonderful and creative efforts in dressing up.

Our bodies

This week in Mighty Oaks 🌳 we have been focusing on our bodies and feelings. Through a range of activities we’ve talked about emotions, how babies grow and how good exercise effects our mood and body.
We used the special machine to show us the germs on our hands and the importance of good hand washing. They put on the magic lotion to show how much was taken away after a good wash.
In the PE sessions we’ve used the Mood movers videos to help us dance our way through our changing moods and how they make us feel. Then we made our way around the assault course. Crossbar coaches made us use our bodies to balance in different ways. They were so impressed with all of them and awarded star players. 👏🏻🏆
In cooking club we made mommy and baby chocolate biscuits, then we talked and watched a video explaining how babies are made and grow inside the mommy’s tummies. 🤰🧑🏼‍🍳
In Basecamp this week they explored the woods recalling the bear hunt story, along the way they used their senses to touch and feel.
Maths has been a great week talking about capacity, we used the compare bears to show heavy and light on the scales.
Have a lovely weekend all ❤️

NSPCC Mega Maths day

” There is a difference between not knowing and not knowing yet. Their mistakes allow thinking to happen! ”

Here in Mighty Oaks we’ve had a very active busy week, jam packed with planned activities around maths to support the NSPCC Number day today. 🔢

Our book about numbers was ‘ Pete the cat and his four groovy buttons’😻by Eric Litwin, for this the children sat, listened to the story and sang along to the song. Then in numbers and patterns time they had challenges to count down, take away and problem solve with real buttons. ✏️🎶📚

In their child initiated time they were free to explore activities set out with maths in mind. We had ladybug bingo, match the quantity to the numerals, find sets of the same, number blocks, painting with number stamps and a messy maths sensory play for capacity. They really had lots of fun while testing their theories! 🧪👩🏾‍🔬🧑🏼‍🔬

Cooking club tested their peeling and chopping skills on a number of different vegetables ready for their very own homemade soup. We counted how many pieces each friend had cut and placed into the bowl. We talked using math language to explain, all most full, more, plenty and how long. 🧑🏾‍🍳⏲

Forest School looked like it was far to much fun to be doing maths ?!? 🌳🪵

They counted together how many friends were going and asked questions to test their knowledge, understanding and encourage recall.

How many sticks they could find? who’s was longer or shorter?

How many they can carry? Are they heavy or light?

PE time the children had to listen to instructions involving numbers,

1, foot on the ball, 2, bottom on the ball and 3, tummies on the ball. ⚽️

I’ll be counting sheep in my sleep!

Thank you to everyone again for your donations and efforts in dressing up today.

From Mrs Giordano and all the Mighty Oaks team 🌳
