Year 1 Guided Reading – Monday 18th May

Hello again,

Here is the Guided Reading story and activity ideas for you to have a look at over the next few days. I know many of you are going to love this story because we have really enjoyed learning about firefighters in the past at school. At the end of the story, the children are asked ‘What would you like to be when you grow up?’. I’m sure this will lead to lots of interesting discussions and there is a poster for the children to complete with a drawing and a sentence. We would love it if you could share your wonderful posters with us on the blog. πŸ™‚

Year 1 Maths Activity – Monday 18th May

Hello Year 1,

I hope you have all had a fun and restful weekend and are ready to get back to lots of fun activities this week. As I mentioned last week, we are going to move onto to our new topic of Measure. This week, we will be focusing on exploring capacity and volume. All the information you need is on the picture or the PDF below.

We have got lots of fun and practical activities coming up this week. To explore capacity, we are going to need a selection of different containers. This could be pots, tubs, bottles, cups, pans, bowls… anything at all that can hold liquid.

Year 1 Maths Activity – Tuesday 12th May

Hi Year 1,

We have come to the end of our lesson sequence on place value and we will begin our new topic of β€˜Measure’ next week. We are going to use the remaining four lessons this week to recap on addition and subtraction. The work we did on counting and place value last week will support us with this. Today, we will be focusing on understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction.

I really am missing having a go at these maths activities with you all, so today…I would like to set you a final challenge to end your lesson. In school, we often ask you to be reflective and think about your learning. I wonder if you could all think of one important thing you learn in your Maths lesson today and post it as a comment on our Year 1 Homework Blog! Just look for this picture and leave a comment below it!

I can’t wait to hear all about what you have learnt!
