Weather adaptions

Dear Parents/Carers,

Normally we welcome the sun and long spells of lovely dry weather, but it is rather annoying now as we face another heat wave.

We will be carrying out all of the below strategies from tomorrow (with some adaptions today as the temperatures rise)…

  • Relax school uniform rules – all children are encouraged to come in PE kits for Thursday and Friday (I will update about next week over the weekend).
  • All children will need a hat – preferably one with a wide brim to maximise protection.
  • Sunscreen with high sun protection factor needs to be applied before coming to school and children will be permitted to reapply throughout the day. (Name bottles please!)
  • We will be again encouraging children to stay in shaded areas – we are lucky to have the back fence lined with trees and some other shaded options to use. We will ask Mr Bryant to put up some gazebos.
  • Teachers will adapt lessons for hot weather including bringing the water sprays back out of the cupboards!
  • We will try our best to ventilate rooms, but children are permitted to bring in fans, but they will be responsible for looking after them.
  • We will reduce unnecessary heat and only use lights when required.
  • We will provide and encourage children to drink more water – please ensure they have a named bottle.

I know from experience that though school does heat up, it does seem to remain cooler than houses, unless they have air conditioning.

We are open as normal and expect all children to attend. We will be opening the gate at 2.45pm on Thursday and Friday to support at the hottest time of the day.

Thank you for your support.
