Reading in Reception

Dear parents and carers,

Teachers across the school are doing an amazing job of planning high quality work for your children to complete whilst at home (and for those in school).

As you are aware, the government has set very clear guidance regarding the amount of time which should be spent by children on schoolwork.

The amount of remote education should be a minimum of:

  • key stage 1: 3 hours a day
  • key stage 2: 4 hours a day

We have ensured that a wide range of subjects are covered within this time and are particularly mindful of the need to ensure children have time away from screens.

That said, we remain keen to stress how vitally important it is that your child is reading every single day; and while at home, we have provided online resources to facilitate this.

In Reception we are using Oxford Owl. Your child can then select and read the books according to the coloured band that they would normally choose from at school. If you need a reminder of which coloured band they normally choose from, then please ask.

In addition to this, we set weekly reading challenges! We hope you are enjoying these. We love to see the results of your challenges that you have been sending in. We have also been posting storytimes. This is because we love to have a storyime in Reception everyday. We ask that you please build a storytime into your daily routine, perhaps at bedtime to keep the love of reading alive.

World Book Day 2021

Next month on the 4th March is the annual celebration of reading across the country!

As we expect to still be in a lockdown situation, Newdale would like to introduce an Alice in Wonderland whole school theme. We hope that by having one theme, this will support families who have children in multiple year groups.

More information will follow, but we would encourage dressing up for those who enjoy this and of course a mad hatter’s tea party of your own! We understand going out to buy a costume may be a challenge at the moment, so encourage you to get creative and put something together of your own at home just for fun. We will  be having a ‘hat’ theme so even just making a hat for the event to get into the spirit!

 Kind regards,

The Year Reception team

Reception information: Art Day

Home Schooling Art Day 2021

You will have received the message about Art Day on Monday. For those children in school that day, we will also be doing the activities. I have attached the sheet of activities for you to see what we are doing.
Please can I draw your attention to the handprint art activity. For this children are welcome to bring in their Grandparents handprint, which as outlined on the sheet could be passed onto you virtually or through the post. We will need to quarantine these before we decorate. If you can’t receive a handprint then we can make our own representation. If you don’t have a grandparent, then this could be for some other special person you are missing at the moment.
As we won’t be able to hold our annual tea-party this year in school,  then after school you may also choose to take part in the suggested virtual tea-party too.
Thank you everybody. We can’t wait to get creative!

ART DAY Monday 8th February

A reminder that Monday (8th February) is ART DAY at Newdale!  🎨

Your class teachers will have already sent you the options of things to take part in for this day, so we hope you have had a look and selected which creative activities you would most like to do! We can’t wait to see them.

Don’t forget that one option was the handprint art, along with Grandparent handprints and that you may even like to host your own virtual/telephone tea-party with grandparents this week.

If your child is in school on Monday, then they are welcome to bring in their Grandparent’s handprints (digital, posted outlines, etc) into school to complete in class. Please remember to name the back of them so we know which hands belong to who!

Have fun everybody 🤗

ART DAY MONDAY 8TH FEBRUARY

We are delighted to announce that on Monday 8th February we are holding an Art Day! This is for both the children in school and those who are learning from home.

Your class teachers will be posting the activities for you to access at home either on the website or via your Google Classroom this week so you will have plenty of time to get prepared (we have however, tried to think of ways to get creative without an abundance of resources. You will hopefully have most of the things you need already available at home.)

We have included a range of ideas such as laundry art, and pencil sketching amongst other things, so that you can simply choose the things that you like best. We have included things that your child should be able to do independently to provide you with some much needed time.

One idea that we would love for you to take part in is our ‘Handprint’ art, in which we are hoping to make a display of back in school. Details will be on your year group sheet. You can draw round and decorate your handprint in any way you like and with whatever you have, e.g pens, pencils, buttons, paper, bits of material, glitter etc.

We are aware that normally we would be holding our annual Grandparents’ tea-party at this time of year and that unfortunately not only can we not do this  at the moment, but for many of us, we are unable to see Grandparents’ currently. Therefore, we thought if you would like to and are able to, you might like to also create a Grandparent handprint to decorate. You could do this by asking them to send a handprint image of their hand digitally, or they could even draw round their hand and post it to you which you could decorate when quarantined. If this is something they can’t do, you can always draw your own version to represent their handprint.

One final suggestion, to keep the tradition going if at all possible, is to set up your own virtual tea-party with Grandparents’ at home. Have a cup of tea and a piece of cake together and just enjoy having a chat as we would have done if possible back in school. You could do this via a video call, or even a normal telephone call.

We would love to know how you get on.

Have a great day everybody and get creative!

VIRTUAL PANTOMIME INFORMATION

Hello Reception,

Hopefully you have seen the message with exciting news about our Virtual Pantomime treat tomorrow on our Google Classroom page.

Here is some information about the panto tomorrow. Please read this information carefully!
There are 300 ‘tickets’ for our panto showing tomorrow afternoon.
Only one device per household is permitted to log into teams using this link, so please use the most appropriate device for your family to watch. If you attempt to log in on more than one device, this will stop other families from accessing their ticket and being able to see the showing.
Once all 300 ‘tickets’ have been allocated, no further admissions into the showing are allowed.
The panto is performed via Microsoft Teams, so please make sure that your device is able to support this.  If you do not currently have access to Teams, please download this for free by following this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app The company who are performing the panto are in charge of the technical side of the showing and will be hosting the meeting.
We will send you the link and more information tomorrow 😊

The link that we send tomorrow for the Pantomime will be sent via Google Classroom only, as we can not post this publicly via the website. Please ensure you look out for this information on the Reception Google Class Page tomorrow.

We can’t wait! :)

Fun in the snow ⛄️ ❄️

We were so lucky today for nature to provide us with the best forest school experience. Everywhere was covered in snow, so this afternoon we headed outside to build a snowman and then off to the field to run around, make snow angels and run down the snowy hills.  It really was so much fun. Hope everybody at home made the most of the weather while it lasts. We miss you and would love to see your outdoor snow experiences at home on EvidenceMe.

Reception Forest School

For those children who are still coming into school, could you please now come to school on a Monday in warm outdoor clothes with normal footwear. Then please bring wellies and a waterproof top layer in a separate carrier to put on for the session.

Thank you.

The Reception Team
