Welcome Back Year 1!

Hello Year 1!

We hope you have had a wonderful half term in this glorious weather.

You may be aware that some children in Year 1 are able to return to school on Monday 1st June. However, not all children are able to return at this time. Not to worry if this is the case, as I will continue to post Home Learning activities for Year 1 on the school website so you can continue your amazing work regardless.

Please do keep sending in your work on the blog. We really do love to see your smiley faces and the great things you have been up to. Miss McCullagh is going to busy teaching the children of Y1 that have returned, so if you are one of the children or parents of those still at home, and have any questions, then please contact me via our year 1 email account. It is still the same year 1 address as before but please be aware if you are in Miss McCullagh’s class, it may be myself who responds. You can still also contact me through the PurpleMash 2email accounts.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I look forward to hearing from you all next week.

Miss Hailey :)

Welcome Back Year 2!

Hello Year 2, Miss Hailey here!

Welcome to the second half of the Summer Term. As you may know, some year groups are returning to school on June 1st. However, not all year groups can just yet and so will need to keep up with all the amazing home learning they have been doing whilst schools have been closed.

School will be a little bit different at first as class sizes need to be smaller, which means some children will be working with different teachers for a little while. Because of this change, your lovely Year 2 teachers Miss Jones and Miss Newport are going to be looking after some of my Year 1 class in school for a little while! So in return I am very excited to be taking over Year 2’s Home Learning on the website. I am so happy I get to do this as many of you were in my class last year, or I worked with you at times when you were in the other Y1 class and I get to see how you are getting on now!

I must admit I have been having a look at the wonderful work posted on the Y2 homework blog over the last few weeks and have enjoyed seeing all the fantastic work and activities you have been up to. So when you complete your work, please keep on posting the work to the blog for me to have a look at. (I am sure Miss Jones and Miss Newport will still be keeping an eye when they have chance too.)

As they will be busy teaching in school, you will be able to contact me via your PurpleMash 2email accounts and I will be happy to help, answer your questions or just say hello!

If Y2 parents would like to contact me directly with any questions, they are welcome to use our year 1 email address which is newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk at any time and I will be happy to help.

Enjoy the half term weekend Year 2.

Miss Hailey :)

Year 1 Stars this Week…

The end of another fantastic week of Home Learning means time to select our Year 1 stars again! This week we have looked particularly closely on the fabulous work being completed on PurpleMash and you continue to make us very proud with your efforts.

Here are our star certificates for children nominated this week…

Congratulations to you all! Have a lovely half term!

Miss Hailey and Miss McCullagh :)

Year 1 Spellings

Here are new spellings to practise, following this week’s spelling test.

All children in Y1 have the same spellings this week as they will be practising Summer 1 Jumping Orange words. Jumping Orange words are the words your child should know in line with their year group that were sent out at the beginning of the year. Your child will be tested on these after the half term break on Friday 29th May 2020.

Phonics

Today is spelling test day! We hope you have enjoyed some of the games and Miss Hammond’s videos this week. Good luck in your test and remember to email Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lee your scores.

New spellings to follow on a separate post to our class page and spelling page.

Friday Literacy

Today we want you to think carefully about staying safe in the sun. When we visit the coast, we often go when it is hot and sunny (much like the lovely weather we have experienced over the last few weeks).

On PurpleMash you will find the following 2do:

Can you design a sun safety poster? As always paper copies welcome.

An extra 2do has been set if you are really keen.

Finally, just for fun attached is some Summer Mindfulness colouring. Relax to some music (perhaps ocean sounds) and colour the lovely pictures.

Have a lovely half term everyone.

Phonics

For phonics today please practise your spellings and flashcards using Miss Hammond’s daily video post. Can you identify the real and nonsense words for this week’s sounds using the Dragon’s Den game? Perhaps you will beat your top score from Picnic on Pluto yesterday.

Thursday LIteracy

This week you have been researching and reading about the seaside and coasts. I am sure everyone would like to visit a coast one day! Can you persuade a friend to visit the seaside?

On PurpleMash you will also find the following 2do:

Create your own leaflet persuading a friend to visit the seaside. Remember you could include many of those lovely adjectives you came up with, using your senses to describe the coast on Monday. If you would rather do a paper version and upload to the blog, then we would love to see that too.

Wednesday Literacy

Today is a reading comprehension activity. This is called ‘All About Beaches’. There are different levels of reading sheets and questions to choose depending on which level of challenge most suits your child. Encourage your child to sound out and read the reading sheet if they can (a little support if needed is fine). Can they then answer the questions to check their understanding?

You many like to read the sheet online and then copy out the questions instead of printing.

We would love to see this activity on our Year 1 homework blog. We really do love to see your hard work completed at home. Keep up all the great work.

Phonics

For phonics today please practise your spellings and flashcards using Miss Hammond’s daily video post. Now can you practise putting your spelling words into a sentence?

Tuesday Literacy

Today we would like you to label the features of the coast. It may be helpful to do some research before completing this task. Always work with a grown-up to research using websites on the internet. The National Geographic for kids website may be a useful starting point.

Attached is a sheet to label. If you do not have a printer, you could draw your own coastline and then label it. The sheets attached have different levels depending how challenging you would like the activity to be.

Monday Phonics

For phonics today please practise your spellings. Remember Miss Hammond is still busy with Busy Bee making her fantastic videos to help you practise your flashcards at home and revise all your sounds. Seb in Y1 had a great idea to put his spellings into his own wordsearch. Perhaps you could try this today with parental help!

 Literacy

Hello Year 1.

This week we are going to be learning all about the seaside and coasts.

Perhaps you have been to a seaside before and can draw on your own experiences. If not, take a look at the PowerPoint attached. Imagine you are there and use your senses to describe what you think you could see, hear, smell, taste and feel.

Can you write your own Seaside senses poem? Don’t forget to include lots of exciting adjectives using your senses to describe the experience.

Attached is a template, but you could design and decorate your very own.
