Newdale’s Got Talent in Year 6

Year 6 enjoyed watching their classmates audition for Newdale’s Got Talent. We can’t wait to find out which acts have made it through to the next round!

Snow Day Activities!

Good morning Year 6,

How exciting to wake up to all of the lovely snow; we do hope that you enjoy playing in it and making lots of fantastic snowmen – this could be your PE lesson for the day! We would love to see pictures of your snowy adventures so do send them to the year 6 inbox: newdale.year6team@taw.org.uk.

Here are some suggested activities that you may wish to do today while enjoying a hot chocolate :-)

Read Theory – use your login details to access your reading comprehension questions and write a comment in your reading diary.

Go on TTRS or Hit the Button to practise your multiplication facts. Have a go at creating your own long multiplication questions as an extension.

Arithmetic – the arithmetic paper that we were going to complete in class this morning is now live on Google Classroom. How many can you complete in 30 minutes?

Tell your adult all about our first lesson on how Crime and Punishment has changed through the ages and make a fact file recording our learning on this topic so far. If you wish to, you could begin to research further on crime and punishment during Roman times, as we will be focussing on this next lesson.

You will also see a link in relation to Aretha Franklin on Google Classroom. In music, we are going to be learning about inspirational women in music and Aretha Franklin is the first artist we will focus on. If you would like to, you can follow the link and make a fact file all about Aretha Franklin.

These are optional tasks and we will be covering them in lessons when we return to school so do not worry if you are not able to complete them.

We know life and work continues for parents so complete what you can with no pressure.

Most importantly, stay safe and enjoy the snow.

Have a great weekend,
Mrs Arthurs and Mrs Stack

Christmas raffle winners!

Mrs Stack’s class have been working exceptionally hard this week to earn tickets to go in the Christmas class raffle. Here are the lucky winners!

Super writing!

Well done to Isla for the brilliant use of figurative language in her character description this week. She secured the Christmas glasses for the day as a reward!

Mrs Stack’s Quizmas winner!

Well done to Meadow and her family, who were the Quizmas winners in Mrs Stack’s class. It was an extremely close run contest which was decided on the correct wording of the film “A Boy Called Christmas”.

Enjoy your biscuits Meadow!

Year 6 Christmas event

As you know, on Tuesday 16th December it will be the Year 6 Christmas event. Entrance is through the office from 2pm and the event will begin at 2.15pm. Tickets are still available directly from the office (this event is no longer on Parentpay). Please can children (and adults if they wish to!) wear their Christmas jumpers on this day, along with their school uniform. Santa hats etc are welcome – the more Christmassy the better!

We look forward to seeing you there.

The Year 6 team

Well done Year 6!

We are extremely proud of how well the children have settled into their new year group.

PE days will remain unchanged next half-term (Monday and Tuesday).

There is no homework to complete over half-term as we want the children to enjoy their break and to return refreshed on Monday 3rd November. Homework will be given on this day so please can children bring their homework books to school.

We have reminded children that along with their weekly homework, they are expected to read at least 5 times a week in year 6 and to record a detailed comment in their reading diary. We would really appreciate parental support and reminders for this, to help us support the children with their learning and also to prepare them for the homework expectations in secondary school.

Have a fabulous half-term!

Mrs Stack and Mrs Arthurs
