Smart cup treat – board game afternoon

As part of their smart cup treat from last term, Year 6 are having a board game afternoon tomorrow (Tuesday 16th June 2026). Whilst they are able to use the board games we have in school, they are very welcome to bring in those which they may have at home. The children have been reminded that they should be willing to share these games with their classmates and that they are responsible for ensuring they don’t lose any pieces!

We are looking forward to an afternoon of friendly competition!

Day four!

Today, we enjoyed Boxfit with Miss Hudson, time on the jungle gym and our Wheelie afternoon!

Discovering Darwin

Today in year 6, we enjoyed a workshop  about Charles Darwin. We learned about his early childhood and how he was fascinated with nature and science from a young age, later travelling around the world on HMS Beagle as a naturalist researching animals. Examining various objects: rocks, shells, beetles, fossils and insects, we discussed how we could classify them based on their characteristics. Becoming Darwinians, we observed the characteristics of different animals, drawing them with ink and a quill; we considered how they had adapted and evolved to survive in their environment . Finally, we created our own creature from a combination of different animals, labelling the features that would help it to survive.

Workshop

Year 6 – Ancient Greece Workshop

Today, Year 6 enjoyed our workshop about Ancient Greece. We examined artefacts and learned how they were used; we even pretended to be archaeologists, uncovering broken artefacts and piecing them together to identify the original items and their purpose.  Taking on the identity of Ancient Greeks, we emulated the Spartan and Athenian societies before choosing which city state we preferred to live in. Finally, we learned about the Olympics and identified how mystery items were used in different sports.

Ice cream and lollipop sale to return again tomorrow!

Thank you to all of those people who bought a lollipop or ice cream at our sale after school today – we sold out of all 200 items!

Due to its popularity and the scorching temperatures forecast, we will be repeating the sale at the end of the school day tomorrow. Items will again be either 50p or £1. Please bring the exact change wherever possible.

Enjoy an end of half term treat whilst supporting us in fundraising for our fantastic Newdale children.

Thank you for your continued support.

Newdale’s Got Talent in Year 6

Year 6 enjoyed watching their classmates audition for Newdale’s Got Talent. We can’t wait to find out which acts have made it through to the next round!

Snow Day Activities!

Good morning Year 6,

How exciting to wake up to all of the lovely snow; we do hope that you enjoy playing in it and making lots of fantastic snowmen – this could be your PE lesson for the day! We would love to see pictures of your snowy adventures so do send them to the year 6 inbox: newdale.year6team@taw.org.uk.

Here are some suggested activities that you may wish to do today while enjoying a hot chocolate :-)

Read Theory – use your login details to access your reading comprehension questions and write a comment in your reading diary.

Go on TTRS or Hit the Button to practise your multiplication facts. Have a go at creating your own long multiplication questions as an extension.

Arithmetic – the arithmetic paper that we were going to complete in class this morning is now live on Google Classroom. How many can you complete in 30 minutes?

Tell your adult all about our first lesson on how Crime and Punishment has changed through the ages and make a fact file recording our learning on this topic so far. If you wish to, you could begin to research further on crime and punishment during Roman times, as we will be focussing on this next lesson.

You will also see a link in relation to Aretha Franklin on Google Classroom. In music, we are going to be learning about inspirational women in music and Aretha Franklin is the first artist we will focus on. If you would like to, you can follow the link and make a fact file all about Aretha Franklin.

These are optional tasks and we will be covering them in lessons when we return to school so do not worry if you are not able to complete them.

We know life and work continues for parents so complete what you can with no pressure.

Most importantly, stay safe and enjoy the snow.

Have a great weekend,
Mrs Arthurs and Mrs Stack
