Year 3 Home Learning Spring 1

Hello Year 3!

We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas. We were really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and hearing all about it. Don’t worry though you will still get to see us and interact with us on Google Classrooms and Purple Mash. At 11.30am tomorrow (Tuesday 5th) we would love you to join us on Google Meet to say hello, Happy New Year and to share a short story.

The link for the Google Meet session tomorrow is:

Or, you can login to Google Classroom with your logins (which are in your reading diaries) and click on the link at the top which will also let you join the Meet. There is a parent guide on this post for accessing Google Classrooms.

Don’t worry if you find this a little tricky it is just a practice run and we are all learning together. If you are having any issues and would like some help at any point in the next few weeks, the Year 3 team can be contacted with the following email address:

We can’t wait to see you online!

Mr and Mrs Christmas come to Newdale!!!!

So today was amazing! This morning all of Mrs Trevor’s class were awarded the achievement award because of their amazing, creative literacy.

THEN…..we had huge, magical smiling faces from ear to ear with Christmas cheer! The surprise visit from Santa and Mrs Christmas was FANTASTIC and made us feel full of Christmas cheer! Mrs C read us a story but Santa kept falling asleep so we had to wake him up! They answered lots of our questions and Mrs Christmas even had a little dance when we sang a little song.

IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVERRRRR! We are so grateful they came to visit us at Newdale.

CAVE PAINTINGS – under the table!

Today the Year 3 classrooms transformed into Stone Age ‘prehistory’ caves.

The children transported back in time to the Stone Age and became homo sapiens for the afternoon. The children used paint to replicate natural resources such as berries, mud and chalk whilst painting message of prehistory to tell a story on the cave walls. The enthusiasm was fantastic – the children didn’t even speak their own language, only grunting could be heard. The pieces of prehistory they replicated were detailed and clear. What a brilliant afternoon by all!

Year 3 Harvest Week – Poetry

This week Year 3 have researched about Harvest celebrations around the world. The children used their cross-curricular links to RE and compared Harvest celebrations in Sikhism and Christianity. Year 3 have been extremely creative by reading existing poems about Harvest, selecting and using some good adjectives, adverbs and phrases and then planned their own poems. On Friday the children reread first draft and edited them using up-levelled vocabulary. Then they took pride in the presentation of their poems. Finally they rehearsed and perform their wonderful poems to their peers in Forest school and outside in the Autumn weather.
