St George’s Day celebrations

Mighty Oaks started of the week celebrating St George’s Day by reading the story ‘ George and the dragon.’🐭🐉📖🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and looked at an educational video on CBeebies on the knight George. We decorated biscuits in the colours of the England flag, painted our very own dragons and pictures, made a huge castle, then we acted out the story line of St George slaying the dragon, to memorise the occasion we of course had a little singing and dancing on the new stage too which they love ❤️ see attached the cute video in the photos.

In base camp Mrs Pablos carried on the fun activities by reading to them while they sat amongst the breeze of the trees and ate their snack, how amazing does that sound!

Their adventures continued as they explored the ever changing environment around them by collected sticks and flowers making patterns on the ground with them. 🌳📖🏞️

With our topic being houses and homes in the world around us the focus planning was all about maps. We studied these in many different formats, looking at where animals live and come from comparing the differences from land to seas to hotter climates and cold ones. The children then recalled their recent visit to the Dingle pool and park by making their own large scale map in their colour groups they drew local landmarks starting from nursery all the way back. I was pleased to hear it was the little things that they remembered, through the eyes of a child, just beautiful! 🗺️🦆

In read, write, ink the children leaving for school come this September have started to look at the letters m, a, s, d, t, and looking at picture flash cards that have the initial sound, ie, M for mountain, mouse, monkey and so on. They have really picked this up and enjoy helping Fred Frog 🐸 to talk the sounds he hears into words, like d, u, ck…duck! Bravo little ones we have some super listeners and magnetic eyes on your teachers.

Mighty Oaks and the three little pigs.

This week in Mighty Oaks we have been looking at different ways to measure and compare. The children have had lots of fun with the challenges set out for them Inside and out.

With the focus being around the story ‘The three little pigs’ our maths lessons gave them opportunities to measure distances from one house to the other using the measuring cubes and string, testing and learning the vocab longest and shortest.

Their are some fantastic builders around us in nursery as I saw lots of building houses going on in the construction area using the, straw, wood and bricks 🧱 like the pigs 🐷

Testing out their ideas and structures along the way. 🏡

In our literacy our book of the week was ‘ in every house, on every street, learning the meaning of tier two words: slouch, wobbly, and chimney. https://youtu.be/eE1Foj-heUc?feature=shared

Baking up some treats in cooking !🧑‍🍳

Teasing me with some colourful garden insects and pound life themed biscuits. The children were taught about the scales and how the ingredients were weighed out on them comparing the ingredients in our bowls we discussed which had more or less, and the heaviest or the lightest. Lots of good vocabulary was being used and recalled as they talked about the mixture changing, gloopy, sticky, and wet.

The mark making challenge was to draw some beanstalks, one long and one short while recalling the story read to them by Mrs Pablos ‘ jack and the beanstalk’ practicing good pencil control with a tripod grip. 📝 https://youtu.be/_VCpAYajmvo?feature=shared

In the role play area our estate agents have been very busy selling houses 🏠 their prices are very high in the forever growing economy though, I brought a very expensive boat house., that I was then told I hold to join the builders to make myself! 😄

Outdoor PE is in full swing as they practice for sports day !

Remember this is on Monday mornings so please remember trainers. 👟

Child initiated time the children made sent potions with different herbs and explored the garden area with the weather being a little better.

Outdoor forest treeiffic Tuesday was a blast making stick house, outdoor snack and checking in on their bug hotels.

Song of the week was ‘ Five little ducks went swimming one day ‘

Mrs Ferriday has created this beautiful tuff tray for them to visually see vibrant colours, numbers, ducks and feel the different textures she had used making it. It was a great way of talking about our local pool the Dingel and the ducks nesting there.

Next week’s book will be ‘ George and the dragon’ ready for Saint Georges day.  https://youtu.be/3Dejq-XAOY4?feature=shared

My Green Day and Red Nose Day

This weeks focus learning was all about looking after our planet 🌍 with the book of the week being ‘ My Green Day ‘

The children in Mighty oaks explored this topic with a sensory tuff tray that had recycling ♻️ materials in there to sort out, plastics, paper, card and wood set on a mini street road to a recycling centre.
🚶🏽‍♀️They went on a walk to base camp with the litter pickers and bin bags to see how much rubbish they could find, sadly lots on the school ground.

Our walk to the Dingle was a fine day to look for the early signs of spring 🌸 with the buds starting to show and the wild flowers coming up. We walked all around the Dingle pools talking about being safe around the waters and visited the local Lawley park. So much fun seeing them having fun while learning.

Cooking club copied the book and made some yummy muffins, teaching the children about where the ingredients came from and weighing them out for the mixture. 🧁

Our art classes involved painting daffodils 🌼 teaching the children how the flower grows and growth and decay.
Thank you to those that brought in old socks for the sock puppets, the children really enjoyed their socks being turned into something they could play with. 🧦 others used different colour felts, wool and buttons to create their very own puppet.

Ending the week by joining in with the great charity Red Nose Day to raise awareness around poverty, learning about children that are not as lucky as they are.
After School club played some fun games for this and did some great colouring on their design sheets. 🔴

Thank to to every one that donated to the Charity 🙏

Next weeks book will be ‘ Dear Zoo ‘

And I’m very excited to see the animal man with the children. 🕷️🦎 on the 20th
join in with our lessons this week by sending in photos of your pets via the evidence me app. We would love to share these with the children’s groups.
