Year 1 Guided Reading – Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd April

Just like before the Easter break, we will set some Guided Reading work for you to have a go at, at home. Sometimes these activities may take a little bit of time, so please don’t feel like you have to rush or complete them all – the most important thing is that you enjoy listening to and sharing some lovely stories at home! We will send out Guided Reading work twice a week, so you will always have a couple of days to listen to the story, talk about it and maybe have a go at some of the questions and activities. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ“š

For today’s activity, you have two dinosaur stories to listen to! The first one is an e-book, which can be listening to on Youtube, or here:

Year 1 Maths – Tuesday 21st April

Hello Year 1,

We hope that you all enjoyed starting to tell the time yesterday. Today, your job is to recap on yesterday’s learning then build your very own clock! You can practise making o’clock times with your clock and use it to play a game of What’s the time Mr Wolf? You may also like to print or create your own clock cards to play a game of O’clock Snap!

Keep the clocks that you make so that we can use them again later this week!

Year 1 Afternoon Project Ideas

Hi everyone,

I hope you have had a lovely first morning back at home school! Lots of you have already sent back some brilliant work on PurpleMash.

As Miss Hailey has already explained, each week will now have a theme and a teacher from Newdale will be setting afternoon work for the whole school, based on that subject. This week is Art week and I know lots of you will be excited to get started on some super art projects.

We have also put together some additional project ideas for Year 1, that you may like to have a go at in the afternoons, alongside the themed work for that week. Remember, these are just ideas – they do not all need to be completed, they are there for you to pick and choose the ones that take your fancy and are feasible for you and your family. In school, our topics in the Summer term would be the ‘Seaside’ and ‘Growing/ Planting’, so we have tried to create some projects based on these areas.

We would love to see any of the afternoon projects get up to, on the homework blog. Remember, you can also contact us via the Year 1 email address if you would like to share any work or have any questions for us!

Year 1 Maths – Monday 20th April

Hi everyone!

We hope you have had a lovely, restful couple of weeks over Easter. We have loved seeing some of the fun, Easter projects that you have been busy completing and we are sure you are eager to get back to your home learning now ๐Ÿ™‚

Our focus in Maths this week is going to be telling the time and today we are going to begin by learning o’clock times.

Monday 20th April Maths Activities

Today’s lesson asks you to warm up your maths brain with an active maths challenge. Some of you may have started to have a go at some of these challenges over Easter, so perhaps you could choose 1 or 2 more to have a go at today!

Here is an example of what Activity 3 might look like….we can’t wait to see all of your super work on PurpleMash ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Easter Year 1!

You have all worked so hard in your first two weeks of home schooling. We have been so impressed with the photos and work that you have shared with us this week, so please scroll back to last week’s post to find the star certificates! โญI am sure you can all think of something you are really proud of achieving this week – we would love to see your certificates shared on the blog.

We are now beginning the Easter holidays and we know you all deserve a well-earned break so we won’t be setting you daily Maths and Literacy activities. However, please keep up with practising your spellings and aim to read at least three times a week. Don’t forget you can access lots of free e-books using Oxford Owl (instructions are in reading diaries). ๐Ÿ“šย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

We know that this break from school is going to be slightly different so we have created a list of fun activities that you can do –ย  without needing to leave your home! Please also feel free to look back on any of the Literacy and Maths activities (particularly online and PurpleMash games) that you have been set over the past couple of weeks – I am sure the children would enjoy playing some of these games again! Remember, there is no obligation to complete these, we just thought they may be useful to have…and fun for the whole family!

Thursday 2nd April – Year 1 Maths Activity

Before you begin your main maths activity today, we thought it might be fun for you to have a go at a Maths scavenger hunt around your house. Don’t worry if you are missing some of the items – you could always swap them for something that you do have!

You are all working so hard on practising your number bonds to 20, so today we have set you a few challenges. You may decide to focus on one of them, or you could give them all a go! The only thing you need for today’s activity, is the number cards that you made yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚

(also included on the PDF of activities below)

We have included here some questions to discuss and some fun activities that you may like to have a go at, at home.
