From notes to chords

Today in Music, the children learnt about the 12 bar blues which is a pattern of chords. A chord is made up of two or more notes played at the same time. Triads are chords made up of three notes. The children simultaneously played the notes C, E and G to create a C chord and practised playing to different tempos.

If you are at home, why don’t you have a look for famous songs which use the 12 bar blues?

Reading at home

For those isolating at home, whilst your child will have access to Bug Club and Fiction Express, they could also be reading our class text. Attached is a copy of the book and some VIPERS style questions to work through at home. In school, we will aim to be up to chapter 20 by the end of this week.

Happy Half Term

Whether you have been in school or working from home, you must be exhausted! We are so proud of how hard you have been working and thoroughly believe that a well-deserved rest is in order!

Remember to say thank you to your parents for helping you out with home learning tasks.

We are not setting any mandatory homework for over the half term but it is Chinese New Year tomorrow. We have put some related activities onto Google Classroom for you to look at (with special guest Mr Wilcox) if you find time! Remember that we will be working on those Jumping Orange words after half term so keep plugging away at them if you can.

For now, catch up on sleep, spend time with family and get outside into nature as much as you can!

The Year 5 Team

Art Day

We are having a great tIme doing arty activities in school. Here are just a few examples of our observational drawings. We used mirrors or photos to help us closely observe our own eyes.

Friday Treat

We had a great time smashing the crossbar in our own crossbar challenge this afternoon. Some children really surprised themselves and we even had brave volunteer goalies. Well done Year 5!

Spellings for the final week of term

This week, we will assess the children on the Jumping Orange words which they have had plenty of time to practise.

For homework, we would like each child to keep a moon diary which will take moments each day. Everyday, at the same chosen time, we would like the children to look up at the moon and draw it onto the sheet. If the weather is cloudy, then simply draw clouds! Hopefully they will begin to notice that the moon is ever changing. Week 7 jumping orange

Should your child wish to continue their investigation of the moon, they could produce a fact file or poster showing off their own research.
