Parents’ Evening

Dear Parents/Carers,

Parents’ Evening Week from Reception to Year 6– WC Monday 6th March 2023

We are pleased to inform you that we will be holding our parents’ evening week during the week beginning Monday 6th March 2023. We believe that parent communication is vital in supporting children with all their needs. During your appointment, you will find out more about how your child is getting on in school and about their attainment and progress. We also use this time to share celebrations as well as ways to further support your child.

Appointments are to be made using our online booking system. This system allows you to choose your own appointment time with your child’s class teacher. Once you have made your appointment online, you will receive an email confirming your booking.

Appointments can be made from Monday 27th February 2023. The online booking system can be accessed via this link:

SchoolCloud – Newdale Primary School and Nursery

and will close on Friday 3rd March 2023 at midday. Please ensure that you login using the correct contact details, which we have on our school system. If you do not have access to the internet, please speak to your child’s class teacher or call our school office. For more information on how to make an appointment, please visit our website or Facebook page where we have uploaded a parents’ guide for you. If you do happen to have any issues, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely

Miss Cook

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year’s World Book Day will take place on Thursday 2nd March with the theme “You are a reader!”

Due to the success of our last Book Swap Day, we will once more run a second-hand book swap shop. Children who bring in a book that they no longer want can swap it on the day (books in good condition only please).

As usual, we are all looking forward to seeing your child dressed up in costume as one of their favourite book characters. Teachers cannot wait to get involved too!

The World Book Day website has lots of ideas on how to do this with as much or as little effort as you would like. There are some excellent ideas to get you started: Dressing Up – World Book Day

However, children are equally welcome to come to school in their pyjamas all ready for a bedtime story if they prefer – just remind them to bring their favourite book too!

Your child will receive a £1 book token to spend on a FREE book, or to save £1 on another full price book of their choice. Full details are available at www.worldbookday.com where you can see the fabulous books that are on offer this year.

World Book Day is a super event to celebrate reading, but reading to and with your child is important every single day to ensure your child can learn to their fullest potential. We would love to see photos of you reading with your child – please stick them into your child’s reading diary if you can!

Happy reading,

 Mrs Thomas

Pizza Family Lunch – Wednesday 1st March

27.2.23

Pizza Family Lunch

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our termly Family lunch is back this week. The closing date for booking a hot school lunch has gone, however you can still join in and bring your own sandwiches.  We politely ask that you do not bring in Macdonald’s, Burger King, fizzy pop etc.

We know that queues can become very busy, so please arrive at the following times to minimise this:

11:30 arrival for parents with children only in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Please queue on the left-hand side outside the office.

12:00 arrival for parents with children in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 and with younger siblings. Please queue on the right-hand side outside the office. KS2 children will not have lunch before 12 o’clock.

As usual, parents will first make their way to their child’s classroom to collect their child before heading to the hall to collect lunches. You are then free to stay and eat in the hall or return to your child’s classroom or to make your way outside and enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed). Perhaps bring a picnic blanket to sit on the grass.

We apologise in advance for any queues that may occur. They usually go down very quickly as we have additional staff working in the kitchen to support this event.

Unfortunately, there will be no parking on site for this event unless you are a blue badge holder.  Please remember that we have a no mobile phone policy on site, they will need to be turned off and kept in pockets or handbags for the duration of the event. Please also note that adults will not be able to use our school toilets during this event.

The event will run up until 1.00pm.  We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all into Newdale.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

News

27.2.23

Dear Parents / Carers of children in Year 1,

We informed you previously that after half term, Miss Broadhurst would be returning to teach part time in Year 1 following her maternity leave.

Miss Broadhurst has since secured another job closer to her home and as a result will not be with us for very much longer.

We are very lucky in that Mrs Millington has agreed to continue teaching full-time in this class up until she leaves to have her baby sometime in mid-June.

This arrangement will ensure that your children have the best continuity possible from now until this time.

I will update you as to the arrangements following Mrs Millington’s departure, but rest assured we always do whatever is possible to ensure the best outcomes for our children.

Kind regards,

Miss Cook

Message from Buddy the Bear!

Staff have talked to children today about Buddy the Bear and that he hopes they all think about the ‘M’ this holiday.

Please see below letter from Buddy the Bear to children.

Have a great half term!

Hi children,

Sorry I have not been to Newdale in a while, but my best friend Cool Cat has told me he was in with his kittens a little while ago and said he loved seeing everyone.

I know you will have all been following the BeSMART code brilliantly this half term and I can’t wait to come and see you all again after the holiday.

Here is a great shot of Cool Cat!

Remember our BeSMART code needs to be followed at all times, not just in school. It would be brilliant if you could concentrate on the ‘M’ this holiday and make home enjoyable for everyone. See how you get on.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

See you soon. Your friend Buddy Bear x

Water Safety Tips for Parents

The Canal & River Trust have produced some information on water safety for parents based on their SAFE message – Stay Away From the Edge, with a focus on getting children to “Hold hands and take two steps back” when by the water side.  They have a video you can watch with your children featuring Maddie Moate from CBeebies: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/explorers/water-safety/toddler-water-safety

Other tips

  • Always hold your child’s hand when by the water
  • Make sure the brake is on the pram or pushchair when stationary
  • Make sure to look out for other people on busy towpaths before stepping back

What to do if a child falls into the water

  • There may be other people around, so shout for help as loudly as you can.
  • If you have other children with you, make sure they are safe.
  • Dial 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service. Explain your location clearly – use road names, bridge numbers, what3words and describe any landmarks.
  • Lie down on the ground and try to reach them in the water. Use a tree branch, stick or an item of clothing to reach out to them. Don’t get in the water yourself. If they have fallen in, it’s likely that they won’t be too far away from the edge.
  • If you can, haul them out of the water. Do this by lying down on the ground and pulling them out by grabbing their clothes. Don’t pull them out from a standing position as you are more likely to fall in the water yourself.
  • If you can’t get them out, lie on the ground and hold on to them until help arrives.

Water Safety Poem:

The waterside is fun to go,

But there are things you need to know.

Let’s stay safe and not be silly,

The water here is very chilly.

Find your grown-up, hold their hand,

Two steps back is where you stand.

Look out for bugs and ducks that quack,

But always do it two steps back.

Gardening sessions – equipment request

Year 3 are soon starting up gardening sessions to create our own mini allotment in the raised bed on the field.

If anyone has any unwanted gardening equipment, then please can this be donated to school via the office.

Ideally we need: Trowels, spades, forks, buckets, watering cans, bamboo canes.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Pablos, Science lead
