Volunteer Reading Support

Volunteer Reading Support

Dear parents and carers,

Do you or someone else in your family have some time to spare to support our pupils? We are looking for volunteers to listen to children read.

We do not ask for any educational qualifications, just that you are willing to see the huge difference that a few hours of your time can make to a child’s reading ability, confidence, and enjoyment.

We do request that you commit to a regular time during term times (maybe one afternoon each week), and we will require you to agree to our Code of Conduct and have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check carried out.

If you are keen to help out, please contact the school office in the first instance on 01952 387720 to book a place on our information session. This will take place on Wednesday 11th January at 1pm with our reading lead, Mrs J Thomas.

We thank you for all your support.

End of term message from Miss Cook

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wow, what a super busy half term that was! We do hope you managed to join us for some of our wonderful festive events this year. The children are suitably excited now and ready to enjoy their holidays and await the arrival of you know who; although they have of course been learning about the real reason Christians around the world celebrate Christmas too.

Teachers have already got many plans in place to ensure that next half term continues to offer exciting learning experiences including trips, visits out and special visitors into our school.

The teams at Newdale look forward to welcoming the children back into school on Wednesday 4th January 2023. Please remember that doors open at 8.35 am with the register being taken at 8.40 am. In the meantime, we all wish you and your families a very happy, peaceful Christmas.

The Gateway Project

Our Gateway Food Bank Project has been in operation since the start of this half term and we have received many generous donations into our ‘Give’ box, located just inside the main entrance door on the left. Thank you so much for any donations. Anyone can donate into this box at any time.

We would like to remind you that you are welcome to use our ‘Take’ box, which is available everyday Monday-Friday, particularly leading up to the Christmas break. This box is unsupervised and is located in the parent shelter by the main entrance.

We are keen that this project supports any of our school families who may be struggling during this difficult time, and we understand that this may be even more so leading up to Christmas.

The boxes will continue to be available throughout the rest of this week and will start again when we return in January.

Regards,

Miss Cook

House point winners

As a result of earning the most house points this half term, Wenlock will have a dress down day on the last day of term, Friday 16th December.

Water Safety

Dear Parents/Carers,

Given the tragic events at the weekend and the forecasted continued colder weather as we head into the Christmas holidays, we send out the attached flier.   We will be highlighting to the children the importance of staying safe around water.

It can be so tempting for children to skate on frozen lakes/canals. They may well be unaware that the ice will not be as thick as it looks and that the best way to stay SAFE around water is to stay away from the edge.  We will highlight to them that If they do spot anyone in difficulty in the water, then they should not enter the water themselves, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

Regards,

Miss Cook

Governor News

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had an application from 1 parent to join our fabulous Governing Body.

As we have had only 1 application, we can automatically elect without the need to follow the process any further.

David Shorter, father of Freddie and Bertie in our school, will join our Governing Body during the Spring Term.

He is keen to support us in making sure our school and nursery are the best they can possibly be for our children.

We look forward to working with him next term.

Regards,

Miss Cook

Scarlet Fever

Dear Parents/Carers,

All schools have been asked to share this letter with Parents.

Please read carefully. We will update you with any changes that are specific to Newdale.

Miss Cook
