Lego Printing

As part of our celebration of Denmark, the children have used Lego to print scenes of a Copenhagen street. We also used Lego in our Mary’s session today when we made three digit numbers and added or subtracted 10 and 100.

European Day of Languages next Tuesday

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Tuesday 26th September we will be celebrating European Day of Languages across Newdale. Year 3 have been allocated Denmark to explore for the day. We will be completing Danish themed activities in class on that day and children may come into school wearing red and white clothing to signify the Danish flag. Please remember that this is also a PE day so suitable coat and trainers will be needed.

Thanks,

The Year 3 Team

Rock investigation

Yesterday we investigated the properties of slate, granite, limestone and sandstone. The children observed the appearance of each rock and tested the hardness using metal screws to scratch the surface. We used vinegar to see if the rocks contained reactive calcium carbonate and we also tested for permeability by dropping water using pipettes.

Welcome to Year 3!

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope that all the children are ready and rearing to go for another fantastic year at Newdale. Attached is some useful information to help you settle in. It details PE days, entry points to the Y3 classrooms, homework and reading expectations and the all-important Y3 email address.

We look forward to working closely with you and your children this year!

Welcome to Y3

STEM Day

Today, the children created prototypes of kites before creating them full sized. They also spent time investigating their fingerprints.

K’nex Challenge

Yesterday, I challenged the children to build something that shows off their learning from this year. They produced some incredibly creative pieces, such as Roman ballistas, chariots and shields as well as other items linked to our Science and Nature Walks. They chose whether or not to work in a group and practised sharing limited resources.

Bags for Books

Dear Parents/Carers,

Towards the end of the week (Wednesday onwards) we will be beginning to send books home. Please send your child in with a strong bag-for-life on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Thanks in advance,

The Year 3 Team
