Nature Walk Tomorrow

Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 5 will be completing their postponed Nature Walk tomorrow (6th May). Please ensure that your child comes to school in clothing suitable for the outdoors, including waterproof coat and a change of shoes. We aim to observe the change of season, the different parts of a flower and the potential impact of the development on the hedgerow habitat.

Thank you,

The Year 5 Team

NFER Test Expected Standards

Dear Parents/Carers,

You child should be bringing home a small report slip to show their progress at this point in the year as we have parents evenings next week. In order to assess your child, we use a range of methods, one of which is formal testing. NFER papers are administered which help us to develop a view of where your child is in their learning.

The expected standard scored for each paper are:

Reading 24/44
Maths 46/110
SPaG 18/40
Spelling 10/24

We consider other factors, such as your child’s independent work in class, contribution to class discussion and homework.

During your parents’ evening slot, we will discuss your child’s progress and ways we are supporting them and how you can continue to support them at home.

Kind Regards,

The Year 5 Team

Dear Parents/Carers,

Online Learning Tomorrow

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will put a more detailed timetable onto the Google Classroom page in due course, but please ensure that your child is ready to begin with Guided Reading at 09:00 with the first live lesson taking place at 10:00.

Well done to so many for accessing learning at the last minute today. We appreciate all your support at home,

Nature Walk Thursday 29th April

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next Thursday afternoon, Year 5 will be going on a belated Spring Nature Walk in the local area in order to observe the fantastic changes of the season. We will be linking this learning to the children’s understanding of the life cycles of plants as well as how habitats can be impacted by humans.

Children should come to school in PE kit with long trousers or tracksuit bottoms. Please ensure that your child wears suitable footwear and coat according to the weather. We are hoping that the rain will stay away, however we will be going out in any weather.

Kind regards,

The Year 5 Team

Reading Diaries

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are pleased to announce that reading diaries can recommence as normal meaning that they can come and go into school on a daily basis. This is a really useful tool for teachers to ensure that children are continuing to develop their reading skills at home. We would like to remind you that children are expected to read 5 times per week and are rewarded highly for writing detailed comments.

Kind Regards,

The Year 5 Team

PE Days after Easter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please be aware that our PE days are changing after the Easter holidays. We will now be having outdoor PE on Mondays and indoor PE on Tuesdays. Please ensure as always that your child attends school in the correct PE kit for those days.

Over the summer term, Year 5 will also be going swimming, however we will provide more information about exact start dates for this closer to the time.

Kind regards,

Harry Potter Colour Mixing

This afternoon, the children did a fantastic job of rebranding the Hogwarts house crests. They used complimentary colours on the opposite sides of the colour wheel and colour mixing skills.
