PE Tuesdays and Thursdays

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please remember that Year 5’s PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. As per Miss Cook’s recent correspondence, please ensure that your child comes into school in regulation Newdale PE kit on those days.

Year 5 Important Edgmond Hall Information

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have received the following information from Edgmond Hall regarding our trip on Friday:

  • Pupils will need to bring a packed lunch with them and drinks for the day (a water bottle and a drink for lunch). As part of our commitment to proactive environmental education we ask all children and visiting staff to take their rubbish home with them to be recycled appropriately.
  • We recommend that children and visiting staff wear suitable outdoor clothing, e.g. long trousers and long sleeved tops and bring a waterproof coat.  Wellies are ideal as they help protect against nettles / long grass in the summer and are good in muddy ground. Old trainers or walking boots are ok too.
  • If the weather is sunny, please can children come with sunscreen and hats to protect them from the sun. It is useful for children to have a minimum of two layers.

Thank you for your support,

RSE Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please be aware that over the next few days in class we will cover the RSE unit for which we recently requested consent. We will be discussing puberty (linked with Science to discuss the physical and emotional changes that take place as the body develops into adulthood) as well as homophobic bullying. In class we will be discussing how these subjects are appropriate for your child’s age group and will be holding carefully monitored discussions. Should your child ask you further questions at home which you are unsure about, please let us know and we will discretely address these.

Thank you,

Nature Walk

Ast week, Year 5 had a great time on a nature walk before returning to dissect flowers. We were looking carefully to see the reproductive parts of the flowers and made some amazing close observations.

Fantastic Poetry Skills

So far this term, we have been looking at a range of classic poetry, including cautionary tales by Hilliare Belloc and Lewis Carroll. The children have been studying Isabel, by Ogden Nash and have successfully emulated his style. Here are a few wonderful examples which showcase greater language choices, effective rhythm and intriguing subjects.
