Reception’s Snow Day

Wow, we are so lucky to have had some more snow fall overnight and we can’t wait to see what you get up to today! We know you will be wrapping up warm and making the most of the snow. Please share lots of pictures/videos on Evidence Me if you can as we would all love to see what you have been up to. These are lots of ideas for what you might want to do today.

Build a snowman: This week we have been learning to count accurately using our counting fingers to line up objects, point or move to count one thing at a time. Can you count how many buttons your snowman has? How many buttons would your snowman have if you added one more? How many buttons would your snowman have if you had one less? Is your snowman shorter than you? Is your snowman taller than you?

Back to Earth with a Bump: We have been reading a story called ‘Back to Earth With a Bump’ this week and the little boy Hal in the story has an adventure, off to search for the sun in Space. Maybe you could get creative today and make your own rocket out of old recycling? What adventure could you have? Take a teddy on an adventure with you today and tell us all about it.

Can you practise writing your name in the snow today?

Understanding the World: Lots of animals will find it tricky to find food today in the snow. Can you help to feed them? Maybe you could feed the birds?

Physical Development: Yesterday, we noticed that lots of you needed help with your gloves and zipping up your coats. Today is the perfect day to practise. If you get good at it, maybe you could set a timer and see how fast you can get yourself ready for the snow!

You might want to have a snowball throwing competition. You have been working hard on your underarm throwing in PE. How far can you throw a snowball? Can you beat your last throw? Can you catch a snowball?

Can you make a snow angel?

If you are wanting to get active inside instead, these are some fun snow themed movement breaks.

Letter formation: Use the videos to remind yourselves of the rhymes and practise writing your letters. You could air write, write it on paper or even write it in the snow! You could use a stick so you don’t get chilly fingers! This is the link to the videos: ‘a’ letter formation

Phonics: Here are some Fred Games to play to practise your blending. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/SnvL4bgt/5yVhiwhf

Story Time: After a chilly day playing in the snow, why don’t you snuggle up under a blanket a share a story with someone at home? Cosiest part of the day with a warm drink and a lovely story with cuddles. We would love to see and share your photos of this on Evidence Me.

Have a wonderful day.

Welcome back to the Spring Term

Happy New Year and welcome back to the Spring Term!
We hope you all had a fabulous break, enjoyed the festivities and are looking forward to coming back to seeing all your friends.
We can’t wait to start our brand new topic ‘Space’.
A reminder of key days in Reception this term:

Monday and Wednesday: PE days (please come in PE kit uniform on these days – no brand logos)

Thursday: Forest school (please bring kit in a seperate bag)

Finally, a reminder of the toy show and tell for the first day back. Children in reception are invited to bring one toy (clearly named) for our special show and tell. No electronics and devices please and try to avoid small parts as we would hate for anything to get lost or broken.
Thank you. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Reception Christmas Event

Children in Reception classes are welcome to come to school in a Christmas jumper tomorrow for the sing along and craft session. If you do not have a jumper, then tinsel or Christmas hats or hair bows are a welcome alternative.

This will take place in the afternoon, but children can come to school wearing their jumper with their usual skirts or trousers for the whole day.

There will be no forest school session tomorrow afternoon due to the Christmas event.

Thank you

The Reception team :)

Welcome Back Reception

We hope you had a lovely half term! We are looking forward to welcoming you back and hearing about your break.

PE days and Forest School remain the same for this half term:

Wednesday – Outdoor PE (Please come dressed in PE Kit – uniform kit please, no branded logos).

Thursday – Forest School (Please bring warm kit, a waterproof coat and wellies in a bag to change into). We will leave kit boxes outside classroom doors to drop kit bags in and will put them back out at home time to collect kits from. Kit boxes have a coloured sticker for your child’s group so they are easier to place and find.

Friday – Indoor PE (Please come dressed in PE Kit – uniform kit please, no branded logos)

We will keep you updated if there are any changes to days as lovely events get booked in, in the lead up to Christmas.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Bread Making in Reception

In Reception we read ‘The Little Red Hen’ and then baked our own delicious bread!

We followed instructions to make the dough, kneading and rolling our own bread roll. We ate the bread afterwards of course. It was yummy!

Reception Message – Well done!

We would like to say a huge well done to all Reception children for completing their first half term at Newdale.

Everyone has already made so much progress and has worked really hard. We are incredibly proud.

We hope you all have a wonderful well-deserved break at half term.

The Reception Team :)

Reception Message – Hometime

Please could we remind parents/carers to pop a note in the home/school communication book or ring into the main school office if somebody else is collecting your child that day.

If this is going to be a regular alternative person collecting, such as a family member, friend or fellow parent, then please let us know they have permission to collect in your absence.

Thank you for your support.

Message – Lost property and home time.

Good evening,
As you can see, now Autumn is in full swing, we are experiencing both warm and wet weather. Because of this, the children are taking coats, jumpers and cardigans on and off more frequently whilst playing outside at break and lunchtimes. Please can you help us by ensuring that their uniform and coats are labelled with their full name so that we can easily and quickly partner up clothes again with the right person.

It can be quite a challenge to man the doors at home time and search for lost belongings at the same time. Our priority has to be ensuring that each child returns to the correct person collecting them.

We would like to reassure you that we always encourage the children to hang their jumpers and coats on their peg when they take them off, and also to bring them in from the playground. Unfortunately despite reminders, the children can get easily distracted when they are busy playing or having fun so getting mixed up with other uniform is inevitable.

We would appreciate if you would please wait until all children have been sent home with their adult collecting before sending your child back in to look for their belongings, so staff can ensure children are sent out safely.  If your child’s belongings have not been left in class, then please do accompany your child to the lost property box after school to search for items found on the playground.

Thank you for your support and patience at home time.
