Well done Reception ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป ๐ŸŒŸ

We would like to say a huge well done to all the new Reception children for completing their first full week of school. โญ๏ธ
They have worked so hard and have settled in well to the new routines of school. We have loved getting to know everybody. We can imagine some big yawns tonight at bedtime! ๐Ÿฅฑ
Have a wonderful, well-deserved rest over the weekend and we look forward to hearing about your weekend on Monday.

Welcome to Newdale Reception 2023

Welcome to Newdale Primary School 2023.

We are all really looking forward to welcoming everyone into reception for their first day of school, either for their morning or afternoon session on Tuesday. We know you will be so smart in your uniform and will have such a great time catching up with or making new friends.

Please find attached an information sheet. It shows you the staff working in our Reception team, along with a map for entry and exit details for your new classroom. We hope you find this helpful.

Below is the link to our virtual classroom tour sent previously. It might be comforting to watch this again with your child prior to their first day, to remind them of what their lovely new classrooms will look like.

Last Day of Term

We are looking forward to an exciting last day in Reception! We will be completing a ‘STEM’ challenge! We do not want to reveal the challenge just yet, but we can give you a clue it will involve lots of building using the large construction!

Please see below for further details…

Reception Message

We will be sending home the children’s work books this week. Please can you send in a named ‘bag for life’ or strong carrier bag on Wednesday so that we can put the books in ready to send home.

Thank you,

The Reception Team :)

Reception Homework

In Reception, our main priority is encouraging children to love reading and to become readers themselves!

Your child will begin to learn phonics from the very start of Reception and will do this through our chosen Read, Write, Inc scheme daily. As part of this we will send home a selection of books suited to your child’s reading level so that they are able to confidently decode the words in their book phonetically. Each week, they will bring home a book that they will have been practising throughout the week in their lessons, a ‘Bookbag’ book which is a book they have not previously read, but that contains the sounds they are currently practising and they will also have the opportunity to change a ‘Share a story’ book daily. We would not expect your child to read the ‘Share a story’ book independently, but rather take the time to share with you. This could be as a bedtime story or at another relaxing point in the day, where the love of reading can be nurtured and every opportunity to develop your child’s vocabulary can be taken.

We send home ideas within your child’s personal reading diary of questions you could ask whilst reading the book to encourage your child’s understanding. For example, ‘Can you tell me what is happening here?’, ‘How is this character feeling?’ and ‘How do you know?’

In addition to this, each week you will receive a bank of Read, Write, Inc videos sent directly to your Parent Pay account. These are videos directly from the scheme that have been sent specifically for your child to watch and practise the sounds and words at home that they have been learning at school that week.

We will also send home handwriting practise sheets to support the development of correct letter formation.

From time to time, we may also set other exciting home challenges. You will find these posted directly to you on our ‘Evidence Me’ learning platform app, where you will be able to respond and upload photos if you choose or stuck in as a sheet in your home/school communication book.

If you would like any further support with this, then please do not hesitate to ask us.

Thank you for your ongoing support at home.

Nursery Homework at Newdale

At Newdale Nursery, you will have the opportunity to take part in our weekly book change.

All children will receive a reading journal in their own pack and on a Monday (or the first day they attend in the week), your child will have the opportunity to take home or exchange a ‘Share a Story’ book. We would not expect your child to read these books independently, but rather take the time to share with you. This could be as a bedtime story or at another relaxing point in the day, where the love of reading can be nurtured and every opportunity to develop your child’s vocabulary can be taken.

We send home ideas within the reading journal of questions you could ask whilst reading the book to encourage your child’s understanding. For example, ‘Can you tell me what is happening here?’, ‘How is this character feeling?’ and ‘How do you know?’

If you would like any further support with this, then please do not hesitate to ask us.

From time to time, we may also set other exciting home challenges. You will find these posted directly to you on our ‘Evidence Me’ learning platform app, where you will be able to respond and upload photos if you choose.

Thank you for your ongoing support at home.

Career Day in Reception

Thank you for the effort with the wonderful costumes today, that really brought our learning to life! We had builders, engineers, doctors, police, coffee shop assistants, fire fighters, ballerinas, vets, tennis players, explorers, coaches and hairdressers to name but a few! We have learnt all about the different types of jobs there are and what we might like to be when we grow up. We took part in some ‘Money sense’ lessons from Natwest, learning about how and where we might keep our money safe and also the difference between ‘wanting’ and ‘needing’ something.

To round off a brilliant day, we had a visit from a real Midwife, who taught us about her important job of looking after babies. A great day was had by all!

Healthy Lifestyle Week – A visit from Paul Sturgess

We had the best day in Reception to kick off HLW. We had a special visit from Paul Sturgess, former Harlem Globe Trotter.

After an inspirational talk, we got to learn some amazing basketball tricks. We canโ€™t wait to see what sporty things you get up to this week. Please either email or post onto EvidenceMe to keep us updated.
