Happy New Year Reception

Happy New Year to all!

We hope you had a lovely break and enjoyed the Christmas and New Year festivities. We cannot wait to hear all about it tomorrow.

A reminder that Reception children are invited to bring in one toy for a special show and tell session tomorrow afternoon. Please do not send in anything electronic or with small parts that could get lost. Please name your toy where possible so we can ensure it goes home with the right person.

Forest school days remain the same for the Spring term, so please bring warm and waterproof kits with wellies on a Monday to change into.

PE days for Reception have changed this term. They will now be as follows: Thursday morning (Outdoor crossbar session) and Friday afternoon (Indoor sessions). Children need to come dressed in warm PE kits and trainers on these days. Please ensure this is the correct Newdale PE kit.

Any questions, then please do ask via the reading diary or via our class email.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

The Reception Team.

Merry Christmas Reception 🌲 ⛄️

We have had a lovely couple of days in Reception in the lead up to the holidays.
We learnt to play a Christmas board game. Our teachers were so impressed with how we could take turns.
We had a treat on Friday afternoon. We all had our very own golden ticket, danced and then watched “The Polar Express” film drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn!

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to everyone in Reception for completing their first full term in school. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and we can see such great progress.
Thank you to all families for your ongoing support at home too.
Enjoy a well earned rest over the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all safe and sound in the New Year.
Merry Christmas 🎄
The Reception Team.

Fun in the Snow ⛄️ ❄️

Today we had an amazing time in the snow!
We went out in the real snow ❄️ but also were the first to try out school’s brand new magic snowballs that do not melt. 😊
We had snowball fights – particularly enjoying throwing them at the teachers!
Check out the action pictures…

Christmas Sing-a-long in Reception

Thank you for a fabulous turn out to the Reception Christmas event this morning. The children loved having family come to hear them sing and make their beautiful decorations with.
You all did so well in the Christmas quiz! 😊 We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Author Visit!

Today we had a special visit from a real author. Luke Temple, the author of The Blubber Monster, Albert and the Giant Squid and The Blubber Monster’s Crown   told us all about his books. It was so exciting. We listened to parts of his amazing stories.  He will be in school tomorrow for book signing.

Reception News

Here is a reminder of the staff working across the Reception team.

Class intro page Year R 2022-2023

After half term, we welcomed back Mrs Cleobury from her maternity leave. Mrs Cleobury is one of our experienced Teaching Assistant’s and she will be working primarily in Miss Hailey’s classroom along with Mrs Stevens, though as we work together across the classes most days, all children in YR will be familiar with Mrs Cleobury too. She has really enjoyed getting to know the children since her return and meeting the families.

Remembrance in Reception

Today we learnt why it is so important for us to remember the fallen soldiers and what they did for us in the war. We also wanted to celebrate all the soldiers that are still fighting for our country and the amazing work they do.

We watched a video on cbeebies that helped the children to understand that there was a war, how the poppies grew on the battlefields after it ended and why the poppy now symbolises the end of the war.
Here is the link, should you like to watch it again at home:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies

We then made our own symbolic poppies, using tissue paper, card and lolly sticks to mark the occasion.
We used construction kits in the classroom to make model tanks and the 2D shapes to create our own poppy pictures. We also enjoyed drawing our own poppies.

Finally, our teachers were so proud of us all as we joined in with the 2-minute silence at 11am. We watched the live silence on the BBC news to help us understand the scale and significance of this moment.

Perhaps you can ask your child at home what they remember and what they liked most about today?

Reception Star of the Week 💫

Well done Aiyla for being our star of the week and Earth Day superstar 🌟.

Aiyla showed her creative side today with her wonderful hedgehog sculpture she made this afternoon following our special visit from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
Not only that, but she tries her best every single day and is a shining example of following our BMART code. We are really proud,
