Year 2 Residential Trip on Thursday

We hope you are as excited as us for our residential trip.

A few reminders –

  • Children to wear uniform and trainers on Thursday for Enginuity (no need to pack an additional pair of shoes)
  • Please ensure the bag they bring with their overnight items is small enough so the children are able to carry it themselves.
  • If your child has toileting needs at night, please can you email or speak to the class teacher.
  • Any medication should have been handed into the school office
  • Please provide your child with a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated on both days of our trip
  • Your child DOES NOT need to bring any food/snacks with them. A packed lunch will be provided by school on the THURSDAY ready for the children to take to Enginuity- this is so we have minimal luggage due to overnight bags, waterbottles, jackets and pack lunches.
  • Please can you ensure your child has a sun HAT (with a name labelled clearly) suncream can be brought but your child will need to apply it themselves.
  • The children who are NOT staying need to be collected from the youth hostel at 6.30pm. This will allow them to have tea before being collected. On the morning of Friday 9th June please bring your child to YHA Ironbridge Coalbrookdale (1 Paradise Road, Coalbrookdale, TF8 7NR) for 8am.  Lunch will be  provided by the Youth Hostel so please do not provide your child with one. They do not have to wear school uniform on this day.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. Please email us at newdale.year2team@taw.org.uk

Thank you

Year 2 Chicks visit!

We have loved watching the chicks hatch and grow over the last two weeks as part of our Science unit, Animals including humans. We know what they need to survive  and we completed an observation overtime as we measured how tall they have become. What a tricky task that was! Today we got to hold the chicks and watch them run around. It was incredible to see them play, flap their wings and run around.

Year 2 SATS week

Good afternoon,

The children have been working extremely hard in class and we are very proud of their resilience and positivity.

As you are aware we will be completing the Year 2 SATS next week. The children know that the ‘quizzes’  are similar to what they have done before and are a chance to show off their fantastic knowledge.

On Thursday afternoon we will be heading into Forest school. Please can the children bring in a change of clothes and suitable footwear. Then on Friday we will have an afternoon of hot chocolate  (juice), a film and the children can bring their slippers. (Please bring a mug as before) .

Many thanks for your continued support.

Year 2 Pirate Day – Friday 31st March!

Ahoy me ‘arties!

Year 2 will be walking the plank and taking part in a yo ho ho fun filled day as pirates. This will be on Friday 31st March (the last day of term).

We invite all the children in year 2 to come dressed as a pirate ready to set sail on our adventures for the day! You do not need to go out and buy a new outfit but can come dressed as scruffy as you like! Jeans/shorts, t-shirt and face paint for an eye patch as an example.  The adults will be putting on their scruffy rags too and dressing up as pirates! The rougher the better, after all they arrrrr little scallywags!

Year 2 SATS books

Good afternoon,

We have had a few questions regarding purchasing practise SATS booklets this year.

We have made the decision that we will be using the CGP books as a teaching tool in school therefore we will not be offering you the opportunity to purchase them.

Instead we would like the children to continue with their daily practise of spellings, times tables and reading at least 3x per week.

If you would like to purchase any books there are many available in bookshops however we do not want you to feel that it is essential to purchase any additional learning materials.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Year 2 Snow afternoon at home!

Hi all, what a beautiful sight it is with all the snow!

This afternoon please can the children read, practise their spellings, do some timetables.

If you want to perhaps they could write a short descriptive paragraph about how the snow has fallen, covered the ground and sent us all home. We’d love to see these when we get back

Example –

SCHOOL IS SHUT!

It was a bitterly white morning. Crisp, pearly white snow covered the ground like a baby’s blanket. The fuzzy, vast sky stretched out for miles. Everyone arrived at school wrapped up warm but the soft snow was cascading to the ground. During the morning the soft fell rapidly to the ground so the children could not go out to play. The playground was like a sheet of white paper. All the children sighed with sadness because they had to stay inside. All of a sudden a huge announcement was made. School was closing early. The children cheered in excitement.

Have a good afternoon in the snow, have lots of fun and please send us in photos if you manage to get out this afternoon.

World Book Day Fun in Year 2!

What a wonderful sight!

We loved everyone’s efforts today for World Book Day! We think the grown ups loved dressing up more than the children! Miss Honey, Ms Trunchball, Matilda, Amanda Thrip and Lavender from Roald Dahl’s Matilda were so impressed with the children’s love of reading and creative writing today :)

YEAR 2 – cardboard recycling request please!

Good afternoon,

Please can the children start to bring in any recyclable cardboard boxes for Year 2 and their DT unit.

These need to be in school by Wednesday 8th March.

Many Thanks
