Thank you to all of those people who bought a lollipop or ice cream at our sale after school today – we sold out of all 200 items!

Due to its popularity and the scorching temperatures forecast, we will be repeating the sale at the end of the school day tomorrow. Items will again be either 50p or £1. Please bring the exact change wherever possible.

Enjoy an end of half term treat whilst supporting us in fundraising for our fantastic Newdale children.

Thank you for your continued support.

Curriculum Governor Involvement

The Curriculum Governor Committee met on 13th May. Governors enjoyed a tour of the two‑year‑old provision and the pre‑school provision, noting that children were highly engaged and very well supported by the Nursery team. The environments were described as excellent and thoughtfully designed.

Governors then reviewed a random selection of home–school communication diaries. They observed strong engagement from home, either from the child (KS2) or the parent (KS1), and agreed that the time Teaching Assistants spend completing these diaries each day is a valuable use of time.

Anna Taylor (Nursery HLTA) attended the meeting with three EYPPG children, who demonstrated their maths learning. Governors were reassured that the strong foundations being built in Nursery will be highly beneficial as the children transition into Reception.

Governors requested that Science be the focus for the next meeting.

Y2 Florence Nightingale Workshop

Year 2 enjoyed an engaging in‑school visit from the Shrewsbury Museum learning team, who brought our recent Florence Nightingale topic to life through a range of immersive activities.

The children explored Victorian medical artefacts, handling replica objects from Florence Nightingale’s time and comparing them with modern equipment to understand how hospitals have changed. They took part in lively role‑play activities, acting as nurses and soldiers from the Crimean War to discover how Florence improved hygiene, routines and patient care.

Through storytelling and discussion, pupils learned how her work saved lives and shaped the future of nursing. This hands‑on experience encouraged curiosity, teamwork and historical thinking as children investigated objects, shared ideas and asked thoughtful questions! The children loved their ‘Lady of the Lamp’ workshop!

Finance and Personnel Committee Governors Involvement

The Finance and Personnel Governors convened on Thursday 7th May to review several important areas relating to the school’s ongoing development and future planning.

Governors examined the provisional staffing structure for the next academic year, giving particular attention to how it aligns with the increasing number of pupils with complex needs across the school. They also reviewed the financial implications of the proposed structure. As is the case for many schools nationally, Governors noted the growing challenge of delivering fully inclusive provision within budgets that do not reflect the true cost of meeting these needs.

The meeting continued with a review of the Headteacher’s appraisal targets and the progress made towards achieving them. Governors then spent time exploring the new Ofsted Toolkit, considering the guidance available and identifying the preparation required over the next 12 months.

Finally, Governors agreed that a small increase in fees for Nursery, Breakfast Club and After School Club was necessary in order to keep pace with rising inflationary costs

Y2 Kindness Kangaroo

Exciting news for Year 2! Every week, a different child in each class will be able to take home the ‘Kindness Kangaroo’ after showing kindness both in class and on the playground. The children will be able to take our special friend on a journey over the weekend and leave a message of his travels in his diary! We look forward for the first journey on Friday….
