Year 2 Final Week!

Well what a year we have had! We have thoroughly enjoyed making memories and watching our classes grow! We are extremely proud of each and every one of them!

The last week will consist of various activities.

Tuesday – Your child can bring their scooter (and helmet) to school as part of STEM day. Don’t worry if you don’t have one we have some spares at school.

Please provide a t-shirt that you don’t mind getting messy/ruined to use over their PE kit for an experiment we will be doing.

Gymnastics will be on as normal.

Wednesday – please wear PE kit as normal. Children with be finishing their DT unit by making and evaluating their Fruit Salad.

Thursday – Move up morning where they will meet their new teacher.  Your child can bring in a board game from home to play and share with others on this day. It needs to be non-electrical and a game that can be shared with others.

During this week the children will be bringing home their books so please provide them with a sturdy carrier bag. Please look at home for any reading books that belong to school so we can tidy up our book corners.

Thank you as always for your continued support. It has been a pleasure teaching your children this year.

From Miss Lowe, Mrs King, Mrs Stevens and Ms Marshall.

Year 2 World Day for Cultural Diversity

On Thursday 23rd May we will be celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

As part of these celebrations, we would like to invite your child to share their culture, religion or beliefs with us. This can be in the form of traditional dress, articles of faith, books, some photos, a presentation they have created about a religious event or any other relevant items.

If your child would like to share any such items with their class, please prepare them for sharing by ensuring they know clearly about the item as we are sure there will be plenty of questions as we all will want to know more.

Thank you, Mrs King and Miss Lowe

Year 2 DT

DT plea- please can the children bring a small selection of recyclable materials into school on Monday 29th April so they can create a prototype free standing structure as part of their DT unit this half term.

The children will also need to bring a small toy. It may be a very small teddy/action figure/lego figure that they can use to construct a structure to hold the weight of their toy.

Thank you

Year 2 team.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Year 2

From everyone in the Year 2 team, we’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We’d like to thank you for your consistent support, kind words and efforts with learning at home.

We really hope you enjoyed the nativity as much as we did! We were extremely proud of each and every one of them. What confident performers they were!

A few reminders for the New year for Spring term.

PE days – Monday-outdoors  and  Wednesday– indoors – please ensure children come to school on these days wearing the correct PE uniform.

Outdoor learning – Thursday– please ensure children bring suitable footwear and a change of bottoms to school (clearly labelled) as they will change in school.

The children will be expected to be reading at least 3 or more times a week, practising their spellings daily and their times table homework.

Times tables will be tested each Wednesday and their new homework practise sheet will be given out on a Friday with their spellings. The children will move onto the next set of times tables when they are confident with the inverse and speed.

Have a well earned rest and we can’t wait to see the children on 8th January ready for another exciting half term of learning.

The Year 2 team.

Wild Zoological was a fantastic day out :)

The children loved visiting the animal enclosures and watching both incredible shows. The WILD bird show was fascinating. We couldn’t believe how many birds we saw! They flew so close to our heads. I bet the children cannot wait to tell you all about it!

Year 2 Miss Lowe’s class – Poland

Flag of Poland - Wikipedia We loved learning about Poland during European Languages Day!

Lianna shared her Polish book and helped us practise some Polish words and phrases:“Cześć” (Hi/Bye)

“Jak się nazywasz?” (What is your name?)

“Nazywam się… “ (My name is…)

We then designed our own Polish pottery. We loved the circular patterns and bright colours.

European Languages Day – Year 2

Tuesday 26th September is European Languages day.

Year 2 will be focusing on the country…

POLAND

The children are invited to wear the colours of the Polish flag – red and white for the whole school day.

Throughout the day we will be exploring the country and its language, culture and traditions. If you have any Polish resources at home that your child would like to share please feel free to send it in on the Tuesday morning. We know some of our families have relatives or connections to Poland, we’d love you to share your culture with us.

Thank you for your support. Please email newdale.year2@taw.org.uk if you have any other questions.
