DT – Buggies

Year 6 worked in teams and focussed on their communication skills to design an amazing electric buggy. They took their time to decide on a theme, sponsorship and demonstrated excellent team work and compromise to ensure that they worked well together. They then created a series circuit with a motor, switch and battery pack. The circuit was then attached to the chassis and they created the body of the buggy to cover their components. Finally,  went outside to race their buggies three times to find the mean average before evaluating.

Jeremy Indika Safeguarding Workshop

Today we were lucky enough to be visited by Jeremy Indika and take part in his safeguarding workshop. We re-capped our learning on online and body safety before exploring what we should do if, like Jeremy, we experience a situation as a child that has worried us.  Jeremy brought to life the importance of sharing our worries with a trusted adult and we discussed people who would be suitable to talk to in our own lives. Encouraging us to aim high and work hard for our dreams, Jeremy revealed how his hard work and commitment had led to him designing for Range Rover and being offered his dream job with the Red Bull grand prix team. Finally, through games, we considered the different types of emotions we can experience and how best to deal with these.

Year 6 Leavers’ Festival Information

Good afternoon,

Year 6 will have their leavers’ assembly and festival on Friday 17th July from 1-3pm. Please go straight to the hall for the assembly to start at 1pm. There are spare tickets available which will be put onto ParentPay for those that would like further tickets.

We would like to thank parents for your kind donation to put towards our exciting end-of-year celebration. We have organised activities such as bubble football, a silent disco, a quiet area and garden games.

Children will be able to come to school on the final day in festival clothing – think bright colours, glitter and festival accessories!

This year, we will also be providing food and drink which can be purchased on the day. This will be cash only please and includes: hot dogs, chocolate crunch, ice cream and drinks (prices range from 50p to £1.50). Please rest assured that vegetarian and gluten free options will be available for the children with dietary requirements. Please bring picnic blankets and foldable chairs should you need a place to rest.

Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team

Crucial Crew – Further information

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have been notified that there will be a child with a serious nut and sesame allergy present at Crucial Crew on Wednesday. Therefore have been kindly asked to ensure that our pupils do not have anything in their lunch which may contain nuts or sesame.

Due to the hot weather, children will be able to wear their PE kits (preferably with their Newdale top if they have one). Please ensure that this is school PE kit so that they are easily identifiable. We kindly ask you to ensure that the children have sun cream, a sun hat and plenty of water. There are marquees on-site and we will find shaded areas whenever possible during our time there.

Kind regards,

Year 6 Team

Water Battle

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As it appears that the weather will be very good next week, we are hoping that we can have our Year 6 water battle at the end of Friday 26th June. We will do this at the very end of the day, as children will get very wet! Children who have after-school clubs will want to bring a change of clothes.

Children are allowed to bring in their own water blasters. We also have some water blasters should the children not have any at home.

If the weather changes, we will update you on the re-scheduled event.

Crucial Crew/ Art Day Clarification

Good morning,

We are aware that the whole-school art day is scheduled for the same day as Crucial Crew (Wednesday 24th June). Year 6 have had their art day moved but will not require dress-down and will be later this term. Please ensure that your child is wearing school uniform for our trip to Crucial Crew next Wednesday, as there are many schools in attendance and children have to be easily identifiable. Please also ensure that they have a packed lunch including a drink, sun cream and a hat should they need it.

Thank you,
Year 6 Team

Bikeability Year 6

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Next week, Monday 15th – Thursday 18th June, Mrs Arthurs’ class will have Bikeability.

Children will not need to bring their own bikes or helmets as road-worthy bicycles are provided from Telford and Wrekin. The children do not need to be confident cyclists as this will be developed over the week. The sessions are one hour long and will run throughout the school day on Monday. From the second day, children who are able to ride a bike, will be allowed to complete level 2 – riding on roads. There will be trained instructors monitoring the children and their safety and pupils will learn about road safety, signalling and how to ride confidently outside. The children do not need to wear PE kit (apart from Tuesday) which is our usual PE day.

Mrs Stack’s class will complete this in two weeks.

Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team

Leavers’ Hoodies

Good afternoon,

Year 6 will be able to wear their leavers’ hoodies rather than their school jumper of fleece from Monday 29th June. They will still need to wear the rest of their usual school uniform.

Kind regards,
Year 6 Team
