Year 1 – Message about logging into Google Classroom

Just a quick message about logging into Google Classrooms. We have had a couple of notifications about people attempting to open files, whilst logged in on a personal Google account. Due to the security settings, you will not be able to do this and will only be able to access the files using the Year 1 pupil’s Google Classroom log in. I have been in touch with our IT support and he says that it is a very easy mistake to made. If you go to Google.co.uk, in the top right hand corner you should be able to double check which account is logged in. It might be that it is defaulting back to a personal Google account that you have previously logged in with. In which case you will need to sign out of the personal account and sign in using the ‘@taw.org.uk’ email address that was set up by school. This will need to be done for accessing files and joining Live lessons. Any issues with this, please let us know! :)

Wednesday 6th – Year 1 PE

Hi Year 1,

We just wanted to say a really big WELL DONE! So many of you accessed the live lessons this morning and we know many more are watching the videos back at a different time too! Please don’t worry if you are still experiencing a few technical issues, we will be contacting you this afternoon to try to iron out those problems.

You have all made us so proud with how well you have adapted already and we are really excited to carry on teaching you through live lessons. Please make sure you continue to share your super work with us, either via the email or on the homework blog as we are loving seeing all of your super efforts!

We are sure you all need a bit of movement after working so hard this morning so please use this link to access your PE lesson with Mr Irvine and Mr Stone:

Hello,

If your child is still attending school, they will have PE on Wednesday and Thursday and should come to school wearing their PE kits on these days.

On Tuesday, we will have Forest School and so children should bring the appropriate kit in a bag.

Year 1 Phonics and Literacy – Tuesday 5th January

Hi Year 1!

We are really looking forward to seeing you all at 11am on our first Google Meet tomorrow morning.

Here is the Phonics and Literacy activity for you to have a go at tomorrow.

au Lesson

For Literacy this week, we are going to be focussing on a story called ‘The Way Back Home’, by Oliver Jeffers. For today’s activity, please listen to the beginning of the story using this link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbyUrb0X5iU

Please only watch up until the boy lands on the moon at 1:19minutes. At this point, we would like the children to predict what they think will happen next. Think carefully about:

  • What will the little boy do on the moon?
  • Will he meet anybody?
  • Will he go back at home? How will he get there?

Once you have discussed your prediction, you can draw 3 pictures to show what you think will happen next in the story.  You can also write a sentence to go with each of your pictures.  There is a template attached if you wish to print it, or you can work on a plain piece of paper.

Prediction Activity

Please don’t listen to the end of the story yet as we will do this in tomorrow’s lesson.

I can’t wait to hear some of your predictions in tomorrow’s lesson and would love to see some of your super work on the blog too!

All aboard the Newdale Express … 🚂

What a brilliant day we have had! This morning, we all received our tickets to board the special Newdale Express! We watched the Polar Express film and when the children in the film got their refreshments, we got a hot chocolate and some biscuits! Later, Buddy Bear the conductor visited us and, after checking our tickets, he left us a bag of candy canes!

Take a look at our super sewing projects…

This term, our Design and are Technology topic is Puppets. We have all made our very own hand puppet, with an animal theme – to fit in with our Science topic. We all had a go at using a running stitch to join our two pieces of fabric.

Our classroom elves knew we were learning about puppets so they made us our very own puppet theatre. We absolutely loved putting on puppet shows for our friends.

Maybe you could use your own puppet to put on a puppet show for the people you live with! We would love it if you could share a picture of your puppet show on the Year 1 blog.  🙂
