Today at Newdale we celebrated ‘Earth Day’. We all came to school wearing blue and green to represent the Earth and we took part in some exciting ‘Earth Day’ activities in our classroom.
This morning in Reception we had a visit from ‘Morris Magpie’. Morris the magpie brought a HUGE pile of rubbish into our classroom that he had found dropped outside. Morris told us a story about why it’s important to recycle our rubbish and with a bit of help from Mrs Sturrock he taught us all about sorting our rubbish and recycling it so it can be reused again.
After we had learnt all about the importance of recycling we helped Morris the magpie sort the rubbish he had brought into our classroom. We sorted plastic, glass, fabric, metal and cardboard. We then carried out some other activities linked to recycling including colouring in, making posters, role playing working at the Recycling Centre and cutting, sticking and sorting some recycling pictures. It was great fun!
We are all going to work extra hard now at home and school to recycle and help protect and care for our planet.
