Reception’s Brilliant ‘Belonging Boxes’!

Today in RE, Reception shared the BRILLIANT ‘Belonging Boxes’ they had created over the half term holidays.

The children shared their belonging boxes with the class and talked about what their box tells us about them and where they ‘belong’ in the world.

We looked at similarities and differences between everyone’s boxes and celebrated how everyone is different.

We then thought carefully about which kind of ‘belonging’ matters to them most. We discussed how belonging to families might matter more than belonging to a city, but both have their place.

Look at our ‘Belonging Boxes’. Aren’t they fantastic!

Reception’s Earth Day

Today at Newdale we celebrated ‘Earth Day’. We all came to school wearing blue and green to represent the Earth and we took part in some exciting ‘Earth Day’ activities in our classroom.

This morning in Reception we had a visit from ‘Morris Magpie’. Morris the magpie brought a HUGE pile of rubbish into our classroom that he had found dropped outside. Morris told us a story about why it’s important to recycle our rubbish and with a bit of help from Mrs Sturrock he taught us all about sorting our rubbish and recycling it so it can be reused again.

After we had learnt all about the importance of recycling we helped Morris the magpie sort the rubbish he had brought into our classroom. We sorted plastic, glass, fabric, metal and cardboard. We then carried out some other activities linked to recycling including colouring in, making posters, role playing working at the Recycling Centre and cutting, sticking and sorting some recycling pictures. It was great fun!

We are all going to work extra hard now at home and school to recycle and help protect and care for our planet.

Reception’s Earth Day Award

Congratulations to Oscar who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Earth Day Star of the Week’ this week. Oscar has been chosen for working hard on all activities during ‘Earth Day’ today and for his excellent explanation of recycling and what it is. Oscar also worked very hard to sort recyclable materials into the correct ‘recycling bins’. Well done Oscar. You have shown you are thinking very carefully about how to protect and care for our planet.

Reception’s Half Term Homework Project

Please see message below regarding an exciting homework project which the children and parents are invited to take part in over half term.

Many thanks.

The Reception Team 😊

Reception’s Castle Banquet

We have had great fun today at our ‘Royal Banquet’ and ‘Royal Ball’. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes. We didn’t have a class full of children today, we had a class of Kings, Queens, Prince and Princesses, Dragons and Knights!

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Daniel who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ Star of the week this week. Daniel has been chosen for being a fantastic role model for others and for always trying his best with EVERYTHING he does. Well done Daniel!

The Exotic Zoo visit Reception!

Today Reception were lucky enough to have a visit from ‘The Exotic Zoo’.

We talked about how to care for animals and listened to some ‘big words’ about the different types of groups the animals belonged to.

The man from the Exotic Zoo then came round with each animal for us to have a close look. Some of us even chose to have a little stroke too. We were very brave and gentle with the animals when we touched them.

It was so much fun! We wish the Exotic Zoo could come to school every day, especially the cheeky armadillo!

Reception’s very first school trip!!!

Yesterday, Reception were lucky enough to go on a school trip/adventure to Rock Church.

The children walked to the church and on the way looked at the new housing development in our local area. The builders were very busy at work.

When we arrived at the church we were greeted by a church minister and a man called Derek who has been a part of the church for 87 years!  The minister and Derek talked to us about the special signs, symbols and objects, found in a church, that are special to Christians. They even let us hold a HUGE book called the bible. It was very heavy!

Before we went back to school we enjoyed a biscuit and drink in the church hall.

Here are some photos of us on our trip. We hope you enjoy looking at them 🙂

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Rumana who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Star of the Week’ this week.

She has already made lots of lovely new friends in the class and always has such a BIG smile on her face!

What a great first week Rumana, well done!
