Reception’s Castle Banquet

We have had great fun today at our ‘Royal Banquet’ and ‘Royal Ball’. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes. We didn’t have a class full of children today, we had a class of Kings, Queens, Prince and Princesses, Dragons and Knights!

The Exotic Zoo visit Reception!

Today Reception were lucky enough to have a visit from ‘The Exotic Zoo’.

We talked about how to care for animals and listened to some ‘big words’ about the different types of groups the animals belonged to.

The man from the Exotic Zoo then came round with each animal for us to have a close look. Some of us even chose to have a little stroke too. We were very brave and gentle with the animals when we touched them.

It was so much fun! We wish the Exotic Zoo could come to school every day, especially the cheeky armadillo!

Reception’s very first school trip!!!

Yesterday, Reception were lucky enough to go on a school trip/adventure to Rock Church.

The children walked to the church and on the way looked at the new housing development in our local area. The builders were very busy at work.

When we arrived at the church we were greeted by a church minister and a man called Derek who has been a part of the church for 87 years!  The minister and Derek talked to us about the special signs, symbols and objects, found in a church, that are special to Christians. They even let us hold a HUGE book called the bible. It was very heavy!

Before we went back to school we enjoyed a biscuit and drink in the church hall.

Here are some photos of us on our trip. We hope you enjoy looking at them 🙂

Congratulations to Rumana who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Star of the Week’ this week.

Rumana has been chosen for settling in well on her first few days at Newdale. She has followed all instructions given to her carefully, listened well, worked hard and tried her best in all her lessons. She has already made lots of lovely new friends in the class and always has such a BIG smile on her face!

What a great first week Rumana, well done!

Art Day in Reception

On Friday it was Art Day at Newdale.

As part of our exciting Art Day activities, Reception have been learning about the artist Bridget Riley. We looked at the type of art work Bridget Riley produced and how it is mainly optical illusions. We looked at how optical illusions are where ‘we see something more in a picture that looks quite simple at first’. We looked at lots of different examples of optical illusions created by Bridget Riley and then worked collaboratively to create our own class ‘op art’. We linked our artwork to the United Kingdom and created a map of the UK in the style of Bridget Riley. We used different shades of green paint to create our land and different shades of blue paint to create our ocean using dots/ circles and lines to create the effect.

When we weren’t creating our map of the UK we created our own art work using a range of different media. We have had such a fun, messy day!

Our art work is still drying at the moment but we will share a photo of the finished ‘masterpiece’ next week once it is dry and put together. Here are a few photos of us busy creating it in the meantime…

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Marie, who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ Star of the Week, for always working hard and giving 100% effort in everything she does.

Meeting Newdale’s Chicks 🐣

On Friday Reception were lucky enough to go and meet our school chicks. We all had a hold of the chicks (they were so soft and fluffy) and we learnt some chick facts. One interesting fact we found out was that the boy chicks were yellow and the girl chicks were brown!
