Art Day in Reception

On Friday it was Art Day at Newdale.

As part of our exciting Art Day activities, Reception have been learning about the artist Bridget Riley. We looked at the type of art work Bridget Riley produced and how it is mainly optical illusions. We looked at how optical illusions are where ‘we see something more in a picture that looks quite simple at first’. We looked at lots of different examples of optical illusions created by Bridget Riley and then worked collaboratively to create our own class ‘op art’. We linked our artwork to the United Kingdom and created a map of the UK in the style of Bridget Riley. We used different shades of green paint to create our land and different shades of blue paint to create our ocean using dots/ circles and lines to create the effect.

When we weren’t creating our map of the UK we created our own art work using a range of different media. We have had such a fun, messy day!

Our art work is still drying at the moment but we will share a photo of the finished ‘masterpiece’ next week once it is dry and put together. Here are a few photos of us busy creating it in the meantime…

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations to Marie, who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ Star of the Week, for always working hard and giving 100% effort in everything she does.

Meeting Newdale’s Chicks 🐣

On Friday Reception were lucky enough to go and meet our school chicks. We all had a hold of the chicks (they were so soft and fluffy) and we learnt some chick facts. One interesting fact we found out was that the boy chicks were yellow and the girl chicks were brown!

Reception Star of the Week

Congratulations Leo who is Mrs Evans’ and Mrs Sturrock’s ‘Healthy Lifestyles and Sports Star of the Week’ this week.

Healthy Lifestyles Week in Reception

This week has been healthy lifestyles week in school.

Today Reception had a great time completing a range of activities all about how to keep our body healthy.

We looked at a balanced diet and the importance of eating healthily. We then designed our own healthy meal plate.

We spoke about how regular exercise is important as one of the ways to keep our bodies healthy. We then completed a yoga session, carried out a 1Km run around our playground, joined in a Zumba session with Mrs Trevor and used our outdoor gym to exercise our bodies. It was hot, tiring work but great fun! After the exercise we discussed how our bodies had changed thinking about how our body felt before, during and after exercise. Well done Reception!

Reception star of the week!

Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ Star of the Week this week is Joshua for excellent mental maths work and impressing all the adults in class with his excellent knowledge of number facts. Well done Joshua! 😊

Careers Day in Reception

This week has been Careers Week at Newdale. We have learnt about different jobs and discussed what we might like to do when we grow up.
This morning was so exciting as we had a special visitor in school called Sarah who works at Hoo Zoo.
Sarah told us all about her job at Hoo Zoo and some of the things she has to do while she is there. She also brought in a tortoise and a snake for us to look at. Sarah told us some information about these two, very different, animals and then let us stroke them if we wanted to. We were all very brave and everybody in the class stroked both the snake and the tortoise. What a fantastic day we had! Well done everyone.

Careers Week in Reception

This week has been Career Day at Newdale. We have learnt about different jobs and discussed what we might like to do when we grow up.
Yesterday morning was so exciting. We had a special visitor in class to tell us about his job. This was Sergeant Ashley who works in the Army.
Sergeant Ashley first taught us how to march like real soldiers. He then put us through our paces in a team based obstacle course to demonstrate the Army is all about teamwork. We then got to see what he has to carry around with him whilst away in his enormous backpack. We even got to try on his bulletproof army vest and helmet and then crawled through his tent. We all had the best time.

Reception Star of the Week!

Congratulations to Elijah who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ Star of the Week for listening carefully and working hard to follow instructions. Well done Elijah!

Year 4 Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Niamh, Orla, Oliver and Daisy who were selected to represent our school at this year’s ‘Year 4 Maths Challenge’.

The children competed against 38 other school teams completing logic and reasoning based maths problems.

All four children worked exceptionally well as a team and were great ambassadors for the school!
