Online Safety Warning – Poppy’s Playtime advice for parents

It has been brought to our attention that there is a new online horror game which some children are talking about in school.  It is called Poppy’s playtime and is based on a toy which chases you around a toy factory.  There is not an official rating for the game however it is causing some of our older children to have nightmares.

The toy in this game is called Huggy Wuggy and he looks like this:

Early use of digital technology has been shown to improve language skills and promote children’s social development and creativity.

But it’s not without risks for young children, who may come across inappropriate content or begin to copy what older children do online. This short video outlines some guidelines you could set for your child to help give them the best experience of going online.

Wonderful Wednesday

Next week the mighty oak children will start their Wonderful Wednesday activities on Wednesday 19th January.  Every week half of the children will go to the woods whilst the others cook.

Please send your child in old clothes and wellies.  They will also need shoes to change into when they get back to nursery.  If you are unsure which colour group your child is in please just ask at the gate.

In the morning red, yellow and green group are heading to the forest whilst orange, blue and purple group will cook.

In the afternoon orange, blue and purple group with be in the woods and red, yellow and green group will be cooking.

Thank you for your support

E-Safety Top Tip – setting up new devices

At Christmas, millions of lucky children will be excitedly ripping the wrapping off new phones, tablets, computers or consoles. However, in the rush to let young ones enjoy their shiny gadgets, many parents neglect to set these devices up safely – increasing the chances of children going online and stumbling across adult content, making expensive downloads or installing unsuitable apps. A little time configuring the device properly can save a lot of anguish later.

Here are some top tips to ensure that a dream gift on Christmas morning doesn’t turn into a nightmare by Springtime.

E-Safety Top Tip – Reporting to CEOP

CEOP is a great way for children and adults to report online concerns that they have.  CEOP stands for the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command. They are part of the police who investigate and deal with cases of online grooming.

The Click CEOP reporting button can be found on many websites and it provides the website users with information and advice and a direct reporting route to CEOP.  Is your child aware of this button?

E-Safety Top Tip – A parent guide to Roblox

With more than 150 million users worldwide, Roblox is one of the most popular video games of recent times. Roblox allows users to create their own gaming experiences using Roblox Studio: building levels and games then allowing other people to play them. Similarly, players can play each other’s creations, either on their own or with other people online. While it’s a tool that can help foster creative thinking, Roblox is also intermittently in the news amid concerns over young users’ safety.

In the guide, you’ll find tips on a number of potential risks such as in-app purchases, online dating and chat functionality.
