Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 1st April 2020

For phonics today we thought it would be nice for you to play a 4-in-a-row style game using the year 1 ‘ed suffix’ words from this week. Attached is a game sheet we have created for you but if you can’t print, you could make your own by drawing a quick grid and writing the words in it and if you don’t have counters, use a coloured dot instead.

For Literacy, following on in our Easter theme we have set a PurpleMash 2do to write about why Easter is celebrated. You can add images to decorate it. There are headings on the page to help give you ideas about what you might write about. Try to include capital letters and full stops.

We have loved seeing your colourful egg designs too.

Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 31st March 2020

Thank you for the continued support at home. We are enjoying seeing what you have been up to. You have been working your socks off!

Some suggestions for Tuesday’s Year 1 Literacy focus.

For phonics, check out Miss Hammond’s daily video to practise the flashcards together. Repetition is key! Also, continue to practise your weekly spellings. Can you put these spellings into a super sentence?

As we approach the Easter holidays, in school we normally start to learn about who celebrates Easter and why it is celebrated. Share this PowerPoint attached with your child. Can they write three facts they remember from the information? This could be handwritten or typed.

As a fun task, your child could either colour the stained glass window sheet attached. If you don’t have access to a printer your child could design their own stained glass window instead. Get creative as you like! Cut round them, colour them, collage them. We can’t wait to see the results.

Finally, just for fun a 2do is set on PurpleMash to design an Easter Egg.

Year 1 Home Learning Monday 30th March 2020

We hope you had a lovely weekend!

Here are your Phonics and Literacy activities for today.

Attached is a sheet to practise adding the ‘ed’ suffix to the end of a word to make it past tense. You can either print and complete or this is a nice one to simply copy out onto paper. This links to Miss Hailey and Miss McCullagh’s spellings this week. However, this word ending is also an end of Y1 objective so will be perfect for all groups to have a try at.

Activity Sheet Adding -ed

For Literacy, we wanted to have a big focus on handwriting as for many children this has been a target in class. In year 1 we are working hard on our ‘whooshing up’ for our cursive handwriting and beginning to join our letters together. Attached is a powerpoint you may find useful. It shows how to form each letter. Once in slide show mode, click on the letter you want to practise, press on the pencil and he will show you how to form that letter.

Perhaps you can copy a row of each letter from the alphabet? You also had handwriting sheets in your pack.

It would be lovely if you could pick your very favourite poem, nursery rhyme, song or even story and copy it out in your very best cursive handwriting! We cannot wait to see these either posted on the blog or via the year 1 email account: newdale.year1team@taw.org.uk

Have a lovely day.

Year 1 Home Learning Friday 27th March 2020

Friday’s are usually our spelling test day in Year 1. Can you have a little spelling test of your own on this weeks spellings? Make sure mummy or daddy cover the words and try your best.

Why not keep us updated on your spelling test score? We would love to hear how you got on!

Please email your spelling score to Mrs Goodwin or Mrs Lee as they would love to hear them from you too. You can do this on your PurpleMash 2email accounts. Simply type 2email into the PurpleMash search bar. You will find Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lee’s email address in the address book.

We sent out a paper copy of next weeks spellings for all groups last week. They will be dated on the top of the sheet. Attached are copies should you need them.

Keep up the great work.

Some Literacy ideas for tomorrow…

Imagine you are Paddington on his trip to London. Can you write a postcard back home to your family in darkest Peru? We would love to see your work on the blog or via the Y1 email.

We have also  put a typing game on PurpleMash to help you get faster at typing. Can you find the letters in time?

Phonics in Year 1

One of the year 1 sounds is ‘mb’ . In this sound the b is silent! It can usually be found at the end of a word, like in lamb, comb, climb etc.

Have go at this worksheet attached. If you cannot print this off, you may like to copy some of the words or sentences onto your own paper at home.

Finally, just for fun there are some great little tutorials on how to draw Paddington Bear on YouTube if your child would like to do something Arty in the afternoon.

It has been lovely to hear how active some of you keeping, doing your own PE at home – so keep it up!
