Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 21st April 2020

I hope you enjoyed your learning on Monday. I noticed lots of fantastic art creations. Also some great puppet performances of our new story this week.

We are continuing with our ‘The Enormous Turnip’ work this week, with a focus on remembering familiar and repetitive stories.

Can you read it again today  – this time encourage your child to recite as much of it as possible by themselves. Then can you order the story in the correct sequence? You can do this by cutting out and sticking the sequencing pictures attached. Or you make your own by simply drawing a grid on a piece of paper and your child could draw their own lovely pictures in order themselves. You could try to label what is happening in each picture.

Also, look out for an Enormous Turnip themed jigsaw on your PurpleMash 2do.

Finally, for phonics today please continue to practise this week’s spellings. Here is a game you could use or copy for fun too.

Keep an eye out for Miss Hammond’s great phonics video’s too. Well done everyone.

Home Schooling Literacy Monday 20th April 2020

Hello Year 1. We were so lucky to have a beautiful, warm Easter holidays. We have planned some nice things for you to kick-start your final term in Year 1.

We sent spellings out on the last day before the holidays. Please practise these today, ready for your test on Friday. You could turn this into the 4-in-a-row style game attached below either by printing or on paper.  ing suffix 4 in a row game

As part of our new Science growing theme, we are beginning the new story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’. In Y1 it is important to learn and recite familiar tales in order. Please read the story to your child and encourage them to join in with the repetitive familiar parts.

When you have finished the story, see if your child can order the story. They could do this by acting out the story (We would love to see pictures of this) or they could make their own character puppets either by drawing their own puppets and cutting them out or using the templates provided if you have a printer.

Can they repeat all the words? Can they introduce new characters in order?

Here is a copy of the story and resources you may need.

We are looking forward to seeing your Literacy work today.

Welcome Back Year 1!

Hello Year 1. We hope you had a good Easter break!

We are starting some new topics for the Summer Term. Attached below is the overview of what we would normally cover in class during this term. We will try and tailor home schooling tasks as closely as possible to cover these areas until schools reopen.

Year 1 Curriculum Overview Summer 2020

We look forward to hearing from you all soon and seeing your amazing work.

The Year 1 Team.

Year 1 Home Schooling Friday 3rd April 2020

Hello Y1! Well done for making it to the end of term and continuing all the amazing work at home that you would in class. It will make all the difference and we are incredibly proud of you all!

Here are some lesson ideas for Friday.

Friday is spelling day again – so can parents test you on the spellings you have practised at home all week? Again, please send your scores to Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Lee via the PurpleMash email as they cannot wait to hear how you get on.

Here are the next set of spellings which you may already have a paper copy of:

Mrs Goodwin’s Group spellings e-e

Mrs Lee’s Group (recap or er)

For Literacy today there is a final game linked to our theme of suffixes this week. This time we are looking at plurals. On PurpleMash a 2do has been set to match the singular (one object) to the plural (more than one object) e.g cat to cats. This is a fun memory style game so have fun!

We have also popped on a fun Science/Art activity as our topic of Materials comes to an end. Can you draw a picture of your house, choosing the correct materials it is made from? Here is a picture I have attempted of my house :) It is trickier than it looks!

Year 1 Home Schooling Thursday 2nd April 2020

Here are the activities for today for Literacy and Phonics:

Miss Hammond is continuing to make her videos to help keep up the practise at home of the phonics flashcards and year 1 sounds. You could play the 4-in-a-row game again as that proved popular today.

In addition to this there is a new game in your 2do’s on PurpleMash, linked to your spellings. This is a little fun quiz. You can set the time to show the words for as little or as long a time as you like.

Then, for Literacy put your suffix knowledge into practise with this activity:

You choose the correct word ending for the word. Maybe you can write some sentences of your own with the year 1 word endings? You could use words from the game or even words from your spellings.

Hope you enjoy this. You will be suffix experts in no time!

Year 1 Home Learning Wednesday 1st April 2020

For phonics today we thought it would be nice for you to play a 4-in-a-row style game using the year 1 ‘ed suffix’ words from this week. Attached is a game sheet we have created for you but if you can’t print, you could make your own by drawing a quick grid and writing the words in it and if you don’t have counters, use a coloured dot instead.

For Literacy, following on in our Easter theme we have set a PurpleMash 2do to write about why Easter is celebrated. You can add images to decorate it. There are headings on the page to help give you ideas about what you might write about. Try to include capital letters and full stops.

We have loved seeing your colourful egg designs too.

Year 1 Home Learning Tuesday 31st March 2020

Thank you for the continued support at home. We are enjoying seeing what you have been up to. You have been working your socks off!

Some suggestions for Tuesday’s Year 1 Literacy focus.

For phonics, check out Miss Hammond’s daily video to practise the flashcards together. Repetition is key! Also, continue to practise your weekly spellings. Can you put these spellings into a super sentence?

As we approach the Easter holidays, in school we normally start to learn about who celebrates Easter and why it is celebrated. Share this PowerPoint attached with your child. Can they write three facts they remember from the information? This could be handwritten or typed.

Why do we celebrate Easter PPT

As a fun task, your child could either colour the stained glass window sheet attached. If you don’t have access to a printer your child could design their own stained glass window instead. Get creative as you like! Cut round them, colour them, collage them. We can’t wait to see the results.

Finally, just for fun a 2do is set on PurpleMash to design an Easter Egg.
