Phonics learning

I have uploaded the following phonics flash cards that we use to support your child’s literary learning process that goes along side the sign language actions for each picture.

In learning these we teach the letters sound not it’s given name first. For example we teach; a for apple 🍎 not A for ape 🦍 the part of learning the letter names comes later when we start looking at phase 3, two letters one sound and tricky words. These I will upload for our older ones that were just starting this to support their sentence writing and reading. 👂🏻✍🏼

Welcome back

Good morning and welcome back after a well deserved break from homeschooling.

All the team here at Newdale hope that you have had a eggcellent Easter with lots of yummy treats.

Well from looking at all of your wonderful observations you have sent in from Mighty Oaks children’s parents, you have done just that!

Once again wow and thank you, it’s honestly so nice to see you still learning but more importantly having fun and staying safe ❤️🌈 I’ve had lots of pleasure looking through and seeing your amazing activities and planned lessons for learning. Some fabulous ideas very creative, well done all.

Please show your children the following pictures so that they can see their friends having fun too. We look forward to seeing more and please don’t think that your efforts go unnoticed. All of your child’s (key workers) teachers look through them and then they will go in your child’s learning journey folders to support their progress.

Please if you have any difficulties in uploading or you are not sure on how, contact me on shelley.giordano@taw.org.uk I will try my best to help you or send you in the right direction of the ict tech team that can.

Once again thank you 😊 and remember there is no pressure on you to turn your home into a school packed with lessons, what’s important to us all here is that you are safe, well and that your children are having fun.

If in any way you are having difficulties or struggling mentally /or you are just not sure on how to support your child through this difficult time, PLEASE DO NOT hesitate to contact the school and there the office staff will put you on to our pastoral team to help, many of you know Miss Pugh ( Paula) who is part of this team. This is always done privately and stays confidential.

Stay safe and stay at home 🌈

Mighty Oaks learning journeys

We are all loving the way our parents of Mighty Oaks children are being very creative in their child’s learning journey! From the outdoor activities to the home baking, yummy! and the fantastic art you are proudly displaying.

Not forgetting how you have Incorporated math and literacy into their daily routines with amazing printout sheets and books, to what’s surrounding them at home.

I can see some children have even took an interest in different occupations of life, like gardeners, electricians, builders, chefs and even nature explorers. 🐛

How nice is it to see them enjoying homeschooling, smiling and happy.

Home schooling

Wow I am overjoyed with the response from parents observations and responses to our daily tasks, next steps and suggestions. Particularly in Red group, these have kept me smiling on a daily basis. I’m really proud of you all and how you are adapting, parents and children. This is not easy for little minds to understand especially most of all them not being able to socialise with their friends and play. Hopefully we will see each other soon but for now keep up the fantastic work!

Big round of applause to you all, from Mrs Giordano

Make your own pasta

Today would have been our last day of cooking before we broke up for the Easter holidays and as always we listen to the children’s ideas. In blue group Rubie Burrows and Isabelle Richardson wanted to make Farfalle pasta shapes ( pretty bows) Pasta is so easy to make with two ingredients. Roll out the pasta, then using the waved edge cutter ( most have this tool in their play dough set) make a square and pinch in the middle, simple! If you don’t have a cutter like this just use the end of the fork to make the edges look pretty. See video and recipe attached.

If you don’t have the ingredients available then you can always just have a little fun with your play dough.

Try making the other shapes that we all know and love Conchiglie ( shells) by making a little ball put it on your thumb and roll down the back of a fork.

Please go check out Mrs Celobury’s amazing videos on our website on how to make home made play dough.

Sign language

Here at Newdale nursery we pride ourselves in learning and using sign language to support our phonics and communication between Send children and adults. All the children have great fun learning the actions and understand that not all our friends see life through the same window.

I have attached the actions that go along side the phonics flash cards and read write ink. Enjoy have some fun, try learning your name. We would love to see your efforts, post them on the website or in your child’s evidence me app.

Young minds

Your child may understandably be concerned or worried by what they see, read or hear in the news, online or at school regarding coronavirus (covid-19). As a parent or carer, it’s good to talk to them honestly but calmly about what is happening, and to not ignore or shield them from what is going on in the world. Children look to adults in their life for comfort when they are distressed, and will take a lead on how to view things from you. Remember, you don’t have to have all the answers, but it is better to have a gentle conversation to reassure your child that they can talk to you so they don’t feel like they’re on their own.

You may need to gauge their level of understanding or interest to decide what level of detail you need to go into when explaining what is going on. It’s important to respond to their questions and concerns, so that anxieties don’t build up. You could start by asking them what they think is going on, if their friends are talking about it and what they are saying, and if they have any questions.

Older children may have already read or seen a lot of information about coronavirus on social media or online. If they are feeling overwhelmed by what they are reading, encourage them to acknowledge what they are finding difficult. You could help them limit the amount of times they check the news, and encourage them to get information from reputable websites. The Government website is the most up-to-date and reliable source of information, and the NHS common questions has useful information if they are worried about symptoms or family members.

Starting a conversation can be difficult, especially if you’re worried that your child is having a hard time. You’re the leading expert when it comes to your child. You can tell when they aren’t in the mood to talk, or when they aren’t responding to your attempts. Above all, it’s important to remember that as a parent, you do not need to know all the answers but you can help to contain their fears and anxieties by being there for them.

Here are two fantastic groups offering their online support through this, Chams and Bee u.

Nursery’s new visitors

We are so lucky to have two different species of insects to watch hatch and grow in Nursery . (Caterpillars and stick insects). The children have named the adult insects Steve and Sophie, hopefully soon we will see their eggs hatch.

Sports relief day

Nursery will be supporting sports relief tomorrow by wearing sports clothing , any donations would be more than welcome. 🏃🏼🏃🏻‍♀️
