Make Your Own Playdough Recipe

Good afternoon all! Although I have aimed this at nursery, I think all families may like to have a go!

Today, I have recorded an easy step by step playdough recipe using ingredients you may well have at home. Have a little look at the video below and see if you can make your own! I find making playdough with the children almost as fun as playing with it.

Please take extra care when using hot water – grown ups to do this bit.

The ingredients you will need are as follows:

1 cup flour

1/4 cup salt

3/4 cup of (hot) water

3 tablespoons lemon juice (this is substituted cream of tartar)

1 tablespoon sunflower oil

Food colouring (optional)

You may need to add more flour once your playdough has been mixed. Keep kneading until you get to a soft texture. You can also add scents such as conditioner/vanilla essence etc to create a nice smell.

I have also attached some playdough mats you can use once your playdough is ready and cooled down (if you have polly pockets you can pop them inside).

If you do not have access to playdough tools, how about using children’s toys. Small world figures such as dinosaurs make fabulous prints!

You could also use the playdough for letter or number activities. Let your imagination take over!

I hope you have found this useful. Take care

Make your own pasta

Today would have been our last day of cooking before we broke up for the Easter holidays and as always we listen to the children’s ideas. In blue group Rubie Burrows and Isabelle Richardson wanted to make Farfalle pasta shapes ( pretty bows) Pasta is so easy to make with two ingredients. Roll out the pasta, then using the waved edge cutter ( most have this tool in their play dough set) make a square and pinch in the middle, simple! If you don’t have a cutter like this just use the end of the fork to make the edges look pretty. See video and recipe attached.

If you don’t have the ingredients available then you can always just have a little fun with your play dough.

Try making the other shapes that we all know and love Conchiglie ( shells) by making a little ball put it on your thumb and roll down the back of a fork.

Please go check out Mrs Celobury’s amazing videos on our website on how to make home made play dough.

Scam Emails

We wanted to make you aware of a scam which effects families who are eligible for free school meals. The following extract has been taken from an official Government website that was updated today –

Be aware of scam emails

We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following: ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’.

We can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official. We urge parents that if you receive any emails like this, please do not respond, and delete it immediately.

Sign language

Here at Newdale nursery we pride ourselves in learning and using sign language to support our phonics and communication between Send children and adults. All the children have great fun learning the actions and understand that not all our friends see life through the same window.

I have attached the actions that go along side the phonics flash cards and read write ink. Enjoy have some fun, try learning your name. We would love to see your efforts, post them on the website or in your child’s evidence me app.
