Reminder – Art Day – Wednesday 24th June

Our annual Art Day will be held on Wednesday 24th June. The theme is ‘landscapes and portraits’ and children are invited to come to school in non-uniform to celebrate creativity for a suggested donation of £1 towards art supplies and materials. Please ensure clothing warn is suitable for the day, children may get messy! Any donations should be made via ParentPay.

Please note – Y6 pupils should wear PE kit tomorrow for their trip.

Government evaluation: Share your experience of walking, wheeling, and cycling to school 

Our school has agreed to take part in an important government evaluation of interventions that enable walking, wheeling and cycling to school. The findings will help Active Travel England make walking, wheeling and cycling to school easier and safer for children.

All parents and carers of pupils in Reception, Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6 in our school are eligible to participate in an online survey. This will take around 10 minutes to complete and will ask questions about:

  • How your child travels to school.
  • What helps or makes it hard to walk, wheel or cycle to school.
  • What you think about changes to help children travel actively to school.

If 50 parents and carers of pupils in our school take part, then our school will receive a £75 Love2Shop voucher.

Y2 – a quick reminder for Pirate Day on Friday

The weather is forecast to be extremely warm, so please think carefully about your child’s costume. Some pirate outfits can be quite thick or layered, so if you feel their costume may be too hot, please choose something lighter or adapt it so they stay comfortable.

To help keep everyone safe in the heat, please ensure your child:

  • comes in short sleeves where possible
  • brings a sun hat, water bottle and suncream
  • brings their PE kit in a separate bag, in case they need to change into cooler clothes

Curriculum governors involvement

The Curriculum Governors met on 18th June and began by focusing on Science. They spoke with pupils from a range of year groups about their experiences and enjoyed looking through the children’s science books to see the learning that has taken place this year. This was followed by an update from Mr Banfield, our Science Leader. Governors were very impressed by both the pupils’ enthusiasm and Mr Banfield’s leadership, and they have requested the opportunity to observe a practical science session next term.

A Year 6 teacher then shared an overview of the complex processes involved in supporting pupils with their transition to secondary school. Governors were surprised to learn that this year our pupils will be moving on to 14 different secondary schools. They were particularly impressed by the time, care and attention given to ensuring a smooth transition for all pupils, especially those who are more vulnerable.

Governors also reviewed a selection of Early Years and Key Stage 1 home–school communication books. They felt these books play an invaluable role in keeping families and school well‑informed and strengthening communication about day‑to‑day matters.

Hot Weather Notice

Due to the hot weather forecast, children may come to school wearing their PE kit for the remainder of the week.  Please note that sports shirts should not be worn. Correct PE kit only please.

Kindly ensure that all children:

  • Bring a clearly named water bottle
  • Wear a sun hat
  • Have suncream applied before arriving at school

Achievement Assembly

Friday 19th June 2026 

It has been a week filled with exciting trips and activities at Newdale. On Monday, our Year 3 children visited Attingham Farm, while on Wednesday our Reception children enjoyed a trip to Wrekin Forest School. The excitement continued on Friday when our Year 4 children headed to Go Ape for an adventurous day out. Throughout the week, our Year 6 children also took part in Bikeability workshops, developing their cycling skills and confidence. It has been wonderful to see so many children enjoying these fantastic learning experiences and there are many more still to come! 

 

Achievers of the week: 

Year 6 achievers: Leo for being so helpful to the office staff during his breaktimes all through the year. Erin for fantastic participation in bikeability and always listening carefully.  

Year 5 achievers:  Hannah for always being a role model following our school rules and being a keen learner. Damian for excellent Maths NFER results after pushing himself in Maths all year. 

Year 4 achievers: Lucas for a fantastic week, attaining an outstanding score in his maths tests. Zoey for a superb score in her Maths assessments this week. Amazing arithmetic!  

Year 3 achievers: Oscar for fantastic contributions and listening on our trip and amazing resilience throughout test week. Udayveer for being a fabulous role model on our trip and for remembering lots of facts that we learnt.  

Year 2 achievers: Jeremy for settling into Newdale brilliantly. You’re an excellent new member to our team. Natalie for trying exceptionally hard in all areas and being an amazing role model. We are so proud of you! 

Year 1 achievers: Lucas for always for a superstar learner, kind friend and a wonderful member of the class. Declan for making excellent progress this year and always working hard and trying his best! 

Year R achievers: Julian for offering to help friends and adults in school. Tallulah for ALWAYS working so hard every single day. She is a role model! What a superstar 😊  

 

Readers of the week – these children were entered into our weekly reading raffle: 

Year 6 readers: Emelia for her fun Greek facts that have made us laugh. Amalia for her insightful and humorous comments about the poetry she has been reading this week. 

Year 5 readers: Tylor for a week of consistent, detailed reads and showing a good effort to aim for platinum. Noah for well detailed comments in his reading diary.  

Year 4 readers: Poppy for fantastic reading this week showing a great understanding of her story. Arya for reading everyday this week and writing amazing comments about her book! 

Year 3 readers: Stefanie for reading everyday this week! Sebastian for always engaging with questions in his diary.  

Year 2 readers: Macey-Grace for reading everyday! Eve for consistently putting in exceptional effort reading in school and at home. 

Year 1 readers: Freddie for his consistent reading at home! James for consistent reading at home and always trying to complete his phonics speedy reading challenge.  

Newdale Cup Winners

This week, Mrs Churm’s class have won the Newdale Cup for how well they came into assembly, showing respect for the adults and sitting quietly. They are all great role models for their peers!

Toys in School

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to you to ask for your support regarding an increasing number of children bringing toys from home into school and describing them as fidget toys. These have included mini skateboards, dumpling squish toys and Labubus. While we understand that some children may benefit from support with concentration or self-regulation, these items are often becoming a distraction in class and are not always helping learning in the way that was intended.

If a child does require a fidget toy, the school is able to provide suitable resources. These are selected to support learning appropriately and to minimise disruption for the child and others. For this reason, we ask that toys are not brought in from home unless this has first been discussed and agreed with your child’s class teacher or our SENDCO, Mr McFarland, or a member of the Pastoral team.

We appreciate that parents and carers want to do the very best for their children and we are always happy to work together to find the most appropriate support. Agreeing any such arrangement in advance allows us to ensure consistency and to make sure the resource is genuinely beneficial within the classroom setting.

Please therefore do not send toys into school unless this has been discussed and agreed in advance. If you feel your child may benefit from a fidget resource, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
