Yr5 BeSMART treat!

Pyjama DayYear 5 pupils can come to school tomorrow wearing pyjamas, oodies or dressing gowns as part of our BeSMART cup treat.

The morning with run as normal with spelling test, guided reading, maths and literacy.
However, in the afternoon, they will be watching a Harry Potter movie with hot chocolate and a biscuit.
They can bring slippers and a small teddy if they want for this part of the day.

We are so proud of their Diagon Alley leaflets and all their hard work this term so far.
Well done EVERYONE. Keep up the effort! :)

Year 5 remote learning.

Good morning year 5!  Happy SNOW day 😄❄️
Some tasks to keep you busy are on google classroom. You can complete them in any order.

1) Literacy and spellings
Complete the speech task on google classroom. Or, use this link: Speech interrupted: inverted commas and punctuation rules | Oak National Academy

2) Reading
Review a book at home. Create a book review in your reading diaries.

3) Maths
Complete the task on google classroom. If you can’t get on, here is a similar task:
Explain how to calculate the area of a rectangle using multiplication | Oak National Academy

4) Science
Complete the task on google classroom or create your own friction experiment.
Use the link to learn more about the force of friction: Friction: plan | Oak National Academy
Investigation ideas:
How does friction affect the speech of different materials across snow?
Which surface has the least friction?
Which material has the most friction for walking on snow/ice?

5) Competition time!
Get out there early… Who can create the tallest snow sculpture? Share photos with us and include height measurements.

  • Choose Your Location: Find a flat and open space where you can build your sculpture.
The more compact the snow is, the easier it will be to work with.
  • Plan Your Design: Decide what shape your snow sculpture will take. The taller the sculpture, the more wide you’ll need to make the base to prevent it from toppling over.
  • Measure the Height: To measure the height of your sculpture, stand a ruler or
measuring tape next to the sculpture and measure from the ground to the top. You might need a second person to help you measure accurately.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe in the snow!

Yr5 BeSMART treat

Woohoo! Year 5 won the BeSMART cup on Friday 4th November!

trophy cup and Medals vector set 04 free download

We would love to celebrate with them on Wednesday 13th November. On this day, children are invited to bring in slippers to wear in the classroom and a boardgame they would like to play with friends in the afternoon.

Please no trading cards, as they can cause arguments, or games which need to connect to the internet (e.g. Nintendo switches).

Yr5 Shrewsbury Trip

Our Year 5 pupils thoroughly impressed today’s workshop leaders with their excellent behaviour and attitude to learning. It truly was a wonderful start to our new history topic and a celebratory end our monoprint art unit.

Below you can see the replica Viking burial we investigated as historians. We looked at their beautiful jewellery, ornate necklaces, shell game pieces and drinking horns. It made us wonder whether the Vikings really were the vicious, deadly invaders most people remember them as. Children handled Viking artefacts with care and learnt how to write in Viking runes.

We were so proud of the sketches, monoprints and the Viking clay pots our year 5’s produced.

Nature Walk

Year 5 enjoyed our nature walk around the local area.

We looked at many geographical features and used our fieldwork mind map to identify them:

We even had time for some field work sketches of the older houses.

Key events in year 5.

Good morning,

Tomorrow is our new nature walk day! Please send children with a change of footwear in a separate bag as paths can get muddy.

Just a reminder that PE has now moved to Tuesdays and Fridays.
Mr Jackson’s class have 2 more swimming sessions: Friday 11.10.24 and Friday 18.10.24.
Mrs King’s class will begin swimming on the last day of term (Friday 25.10.24).
We also have an extra PE session next week (Wednesday 16.10.24).

Hopefully the timetable below will help with any confusion:

PE tomorrow

Just a reminder that Year 5 have outdoor PE with crossbar tomorrow instead of Thursday for the rest of this term.

Yr5 PE dates

Good afternoon,

Sorry for the confusion regarding PE days. They were on the move up information that was sent home but the website page had failed to update.

This week children will need PE kits on Friday.

Weeks 2-4 Both classes will have PE Thursdays and Fridays. Mr Jackson’s class will have swimming for the Friday PE slot – please remember swimming costume/shorts, a towel and swimming goggles (snorkling goggles are not allowed).

Weeks 5-8 Both classes will have PE Tuesdays and Fridays. Mr Jackson’s class will still have swimming.

Below is a timetable that hopefully makes it clear:

PE kits Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8
Crossbar PE Tuesday Thursday Thursday Thursday Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday
Friday PE Both classes
PE Kits
Mr Jackson’s—Swimming
Mrs King’s —Outdoor athletics
Both classes PE kits.

The reason for the change is because year 5 will luckily be getting some expert hockey coaching weeks 2-4. Mrs King’s class will have swimming at another date.

Yr2 RSE

Children were very sensible learning about body parts today. Most of them remembered vocabulary from Yr1. We talked about these being the scientific names that we might need if we ever have to talk about our privates to doctors. We had a few giggles and loved the story!

Here are the question box contributions from children and our responses. We will share the responses with children tomorrow and thought it would be useful to share them with you. RSE – Questions box and Answers

Again, please get in touch if you have any questions for us.

Thanks,
Year 2 team.
