Nature Walk

Year 5 enjoyed our nature walk around the local area.

We looked at many geographical features and used our fieldwork mind map to identify them:

We even had time for some field work sketches of the older houses.

Key events in year 5.

Good morning,

Tomorrow is our new nature walk day! Please send children with a change of footwear in a separate bag as paths can get muddy.

Just a reminder that PE has now moved to Tuesdays and Fridays.
Mr Jackson’s class have 2 more swimming sessions: Friday 11.10.24 and Friday 18.10.24.
Mrs King’s class will begin swimming on the last day of term (Friday 25.10.24).
We also have an extra PE session next week (Wednesday 16.10.24).

Hopefully the timetable below will help with any confusion:

PE tomorrow

Just a reminder that Year 5 have outdoor PE with crossbar tomorrow instead of Thursday for the rest of this term.

Yr5 PE dates

Good afternoon,

Sorry for the confusion regarding PE days. They were on the move up information that was sent home but the website page had failed to update.

This week children will need PE kits on Friday.

Weeks 2-4 Both classes will have PE Thursdays and Fridays. Mr Jackson’s class will have swimming for the Friday PE slot – please remember swimming costume/shorts, a towel and swimming goggles (snorkling goggles are not allowed).

Weeks 5-8 Both classes will have PE Tuesdays and Fridays. Mr Jackson’s class will still have swimming.

Below is a timetable that hopefully makes it clear:

PE kits Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8
Crossbar PE Tuesday Thursday Thursday Thursday Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday
Friday PE Both classes
PE Kits
Mr Jackson’s—Swimming
Mrs King’s —Outdoor athletics
Both classes PE kits.

The reason for the change is because year 5 will luckily be getting some expert hockey coaching weeks 2-4. Mrs King’s class will have swimming at another date.

Yr2 RSE

Children were very sensible learning about body parts today. Most of them remembered vocabulary from Yr1. We talked about these being the scientific names that we might need if we ever have to talk about our privates to doctors. We had a few giggles and loved the story!

Here are the question box contributions from children and our responses. We will share the responses with children tomorrow and thought it would be useful to share them with you. RSE – Questions box and Answers

Again, please get in touch if you have any questions for us.

Thanks,
Year 2 team.

RSE year 2

Good evening,

Tomorrow we will be covering body parts with year 2. I have attached the slides that we will be using.

Year 2 RSE

We teach this in a very relaxed and open environment where children can have a giggle if they need to and feel relaxed enough to ask questions. We also leave a question box open for the next two weeks. We will not answer any questions that go above and beyond their year group curriculum, but may direct children to ask parents if they have any tricky questions that we can’t answer. We thought it was best to give you a heads up and please do ask us if you need any more information or have any questions yourselves.

If you chose to withdraw your child, they will be reading a story with a teaching assistant outside of the classroom during this lesson. Please let us know if you have changed your mind and would now like your child to participate after seeing the slides. You do not need to contact us if you have not withdrawn your child.

Many thanks,

Mrs King

Ironbridge essentials kit list

Good afternoon,

We had a few parents asking for a remind about what children needed so hopefully this will help.

Thursday- come to school dressed in pirate clothes

Bring inside a labelled carrier bag –

  • Comfy clothes to change into after pirate day – this can be shorts/tee/joggers/leggings/hoody/jacket and trainers– we will do a change from pirate clothes into these before we go to the YHA.
  • They should have with them a light, waterproof coat.
  • A sunhat

You will need to pack in a small ruck sack (something they can carry to their room)

  • A small hand towel.
  • A wash bag with soap, flannel, toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • One small teddy/ comforter if needed.
  • Pull ups if required overnight.
  • Socks and pants for Friday.
  • Casual clothing for the next day.

Please DO NOT provide your child with any of the following:

  • Sweets, unhealthy snacks, fizzy drinks –the children will have plenty to eat and drink!
  • Electronic devices, cameras or phones –they will be kept well entertained and we don’t want to lose anything valuable.
  • Medication in their bag (this must be collected prior to the trip and stored safely by the accompanying adults).
  • Money

We’re all looking forward to it and know we will have a wonderful time.

Thanks,

Mrs King

KS1 Sports Day

Well, year 1 and 2 did not let us down with team support. I’m sure the rest of the school heard them chanting for teammates and their houses last Wednesday.

They ran, jumped and crawled their socks off! It was a close competition and we were so proud of all their efforts.

All our children loved watching parents get their competitive side out and commando roll into winning positions! Thanks for all the extra points you scored. We’re sure they contributed to the winning total.

And, there could only be one winner. A very special well done goes to the house winners…WENLOCK!

A huge thank you to Miss Jones, the crossbar team and all the additional adults who helped total points, set up races and generally organise the day. The afternoon ran incredibly smoothly thanks to your efforts.

Telling time – year 2

Good afternoon,

We are teaching time currently and notice some children are finding it tricky. The best way to get good at reading time is frequent practise. I have attached some resources as I know some of you will want to help out and practise at home. This is not homework but optional work if you have time.

Let us know if you want anymore.
