Healthy lifestyle week

We are thinking about what contributes towards our health this week. Today, we talked about keeping safe online using the story of “Smarty the penguin”. This is also available to parents/careers by searching online for the early years version. The children are encouraged to seek adult support whenever they feel unsure of what to do next when using devices. In addition, we are completing five laps of the field every afternoon to improve our fitness. We were really proud of how many children were able to run all five laps.

Update for Miss Broadhurst’s class

17.6.21

Dear Parents/Carers of Miss Broadhurst’s class,

We have just been informed of another positive case in this class. The symptoms being a cough and a sore throat.

It is clear that this particular virus strain is highly transmissible. Luckily our ‘bubble’ system has contained it to just this class, but we are asking you to stick rigidly to the isolation rules which we are sure you are. The only time you are permitted to leave the house is to get a test.

If you are unsure as to what to do should your child begin to show symptoms, this information should be useful – https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/if-youre-told-to-self-isolate-by-nhs-test-and-trace-or-the-covid-19-app/

Fingers crossed no one else becomes ill.

Take care

How to make a sand castle

The children were challenged to make the best sandcastle for our STEM challenge today. We firstly talked about what we needed and then what order we made it in. We tried dry sand initially and the children decided that it fell down and made a very poor castle. They then suggested that we added water to make the sand stick together. We mixed some water into the sand and the children thought it looked brown and sticky. They decided that wet sand worked much better to make a sandcastle. One child decided that it would be even better if we added more water to the mix, we tried this and we found that really wet sand worked well too. We then added our flags that we made using scissors, glue and sticky tape.

STEM week

We have lots of daily science, technology, engineering and maths activities. Children learn about forces all around them by playing on swings, trikes and cars on ramps. They find out about seasonal changes, growth, life cycles and changes in materials by playing in the mud kitchen and garden. In addition we learn the basics of engineering by building and using construction materials and tools.

Goodbye to Sharon Adkins

Nursery would like to send Mrs Sharon Adkins all the best wishes as she moves on to pastures new.  She will be greatly missed in nursery at lunch time and at After school club.  Her last day with us will be Friday 11th June after 17 years of service.  We have successfully appointed a super new keyworker Rebecca Preston who will be joining our team in nursery.

Yr 4 Nature Walk

Yr 4 went on a wonderful nature walk this morning on the lookout for aspects of human and physical geography. Their findings included The Wrekin as a physical piece of geography and the building sites in the local area which are creating human geography. The children also did their bit for the environment and took litter pickers on their travels too! A great time had by all :)

Miss Sophie Fenn

We would like to wish Miss Sophie Fenn all the best for the future as she is moving on to pastures new.  Nursery will miss her as we have loved having her here at Newdale for the last two years.  Her group in Mighty oaks will be taken over on the 10th June by the fantastic Mrs Ali Bissell, who the children know really well already. I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing her good luck for the future.
