Washable Toys Tomorrow

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our Literacy lesson tomorrow, children will be washing toys to practise writing instruction texts. Please could they come in with one plastic/hard toy that needs a good scrub. Lego or playmobile type figures would be ideal. We want to avoid soggy teddy bears please!

Thanks in advance,

The Year 3 Team

Earth Day Acrostics

Today the children created amazing poems about hedgerow species based on the poetry book “The Lost Words” by Robert Macfarlane. It was written because “that which we do not name, we do not save.” If our children enjoy recognising plants and animals, they will be far more inclined to save them! They used the woodland trust website to help with their research: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/habitats/hedgerows/

Newdale Earth Day 2022

The children have thoroughly enjoyed our Earth Day with each class completing a range of eco themed activities. Keep your eyes peeled on class pages for what your child has been up to. The children were so pleased with your generous donations and will be able to enjoy the colours and shade of this beautiful tree (a liquid ambar- “sweet gum”) for many years to come.

Forest School Reminder

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will continue to have Forest School on Friday afternoons for the duration of this term. Please send your child in with spare footwear and a waterproof coat.

Thanks,

The Year 3 Team

Welcome to Year 3!

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please see the attached document which provides more information to help your child settle into school tomorrow.

We cannot wait to see all the children tomorrow and get started on a fantastic year.

Loudmouth Session

This morning, the children watched a really engaging performance by the Loudmouth team. This was followed by powerful workshops that covered different types of abuse including domestic abuse. We discussed our trusted adults who we can talk to about our worries and recapped the PANTS rule.

Code Club session 4

This week the group split into two units. One group created a program with a sprite whose eyes followed the mouse (or even another automated sprite) whilst the other team created surprise animations to shock the viewer. It is amazing to see the children expressing themselves through Coding.

Ariana in Year 5 was Star Coder this week for her incredible “Emergency Code” in which she created a multiple question quiz in just 5 minutes.

Swimming update

Dear Parents/Carers,

Fortunately, GB class’ missed sessions have been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday 15th February and Tuesday 1st March. From the 8th March, 5BH will begin their five swimming sessions.

Kind regards,

The Year 5 Team
