Year 1 are explorers…✈️

We have been learning all about Amelia Earhart this week. We have discussed what made Amelia so special and thought about how we can achieve our dreams just like she did! Lots of us would like to be explorers now too! We looked at some old pictures of Amelia and her planes. We designed and made our own planes then practised flying them. We measured how far our planes could fly. ✈️ ✈️

Can you tell the people at home why Amelia Earhart is famous?

Fun in Forest School … 🌳🍂🍃

We had lots of fun building obstacle courses and seesaws in Forest School today. We did lots of digging and collected lots of horse chestnuts too.  Some of us decided to bury some of them to see what might happen.

Exotic Zoo 🐍🐢🦔

We had such a fantastic morning with Exotic Zoo. We were lucky enough to meet a millipede, a tortoise, a python, a tenrec and Woody the armadillo!

Which of the animals was your favourite? Why?

Can you remember where any of the animals live?

Happy Harvest from Year 1 🍁🍎🌽

Year 1 have been really busy this week learning all about Harvest. To begin with, we tasted lots of different fruit and vegetables and used our sense of taste to describe them.

Can you remember which one was your favourite? Why?

We looked at some corn which had been harvested from a local field and made our own corn on the cob crafts.

In our Literacy lessons, we created our very own acrostic poems about Harvest. We thought very carefully about the sentences we could use for each line.

Finally, we used Harvest vegetables to bake our own Cheese and Vegetable Muffins! They were delicious! Afterwards, we wrote recipes for the muffins!

Can you remember your instructions? Maybe you could make some more muffins at home!

What a lovely week we have had Year1!  Enjoy a well-earned weekend! 🙂

Adventures in Forest School 🍂 🌳

We had a brilliant time today in Forest School! We made mud pies, built dens, constructed our own slides and even found some empty bird eggs!

Year 1’s Apple Crumble

This week, we have been learning all about Harvest. Today, we used apples to make our very own apple crumble! All of the pupils got involved and had a go at helping to make their crumble. This afternoon, we took the crumble to Forest School to eat it. The children were very impressed with their efforts and we had lots of positive feedback!

Maybe you could help the grown-ups at home to make some delicious apple crumble too? We would love to hear all about the cooking you get up to! You can find the recipe attached below :)

Year 1 have been practising their counting this week!

We have played lots of games to practise counting this week; we really enjoyed going on an outdoor counting trail!

You could practise at home too! You could line up your teddies or dinosaurs and count how many you have! Or even count how many peas you have on your plate at dinner time! 🙂
