Y4 Home Learning W.B 18.05.20

Hi Everyone,

The focus for this week’s Literacy is apostrophes.

Please find attached a booklet full of activities linked to using apostrophes for possession. At the start of the booklet, you will find a parent/carers guide, which explains the different rules, when using apostrophes for possession.

Writing Challenge: Choose one of your favourite cartoons. Write your own story based on this. In your story, try and use all of the SPaG features we have looked at so far e.g.

  • Fronted adverbials
  • Inverted commas
  • Apostrophes for possession
  • Expanded noun phrases

Reading: Reading Comprehension Skills Challenge Cards

Complete a reading challenge card each day this week. Once you have read the short text, have a go at answering the questions either verbally or by writing them down. You or an adult can then use the answer sheet to mark your answers.

Y4 Celebrations – Miss Macfarlane’s Class

Another fantastic week of home learning from Miss Macfarlane’s class.

Mrs H and I are so proud of every single one of you for your attitudes towards your home learning.

Our special shout out this week goes to all the Y4 parents for supporting their child with home learning and posting/emailing their work and photographs.

Enjoy your weekend.

Miss Macfarlane & Mrs H.

Parent Communication – Miss Macfarlane’s Class

Hi Everyone,

At the start of May, I sent all parents in my class an email to their personal email accounts from the Y4 email address (newdale.year4team@taw.org.uk). If you did not receive one, that would have been due to me not having your email address (as it wasn’t on record in the school office); however, I did send those parents a message on Purple Mash to get back to me (thank you to those who did).

If you haven’t replied via email, it would be great to hear from you all and have an update on how your Y4 child is getting on. Mrs H and I are really missing not being in school and with our Y4 class!

Thank you to the parents who have already been in contact.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Miss Macfarlane and Mrs H

Reading at home

Just a quick reminder to parents about Oxford Owl’s FREE online reading service.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page

This service is amazing as it contains a variety of books aimed at your child’s reading level.

As part of your child’s home learning, please encourage them to read as regularly as they can.

Many thanks

The Y4 Team

Y4 Home Learning W.B. 11.05.20

This week, we’d like your child to complete this English activity booklet, which contains spelling, literacy and reading tasks. The writing tasks allow children to apply the Y4 SPaG features which we have looked at over the last few weeks e.g. fronted adverbials, inverted commas etc.

Citizenship Themed Week – W.B 11.05.20

Last week, we enjoyed looking at all of the fantastic work which had been produced based on our Geography themed week.

This week, we’d like children to complete activities which promote being a good citizen.

Here are some ideas: Home Schooling Citizenship Theme Week

Well done to…

Niamh H for consistently working through White Rose maths tasks on a daily basis.

Isla’s great effort towards her home learning.

Ella for her creativity and dedication towards her home learning.

Izzy for her dedication towards her corona virus family diary.

Matthew for his fantastic baking skills.

And everyone else in my class for being superstars!

Enjoy Bank Holiday Friday tomorrow!

Y4 Science- Animals including Humans

This term, Y4 would have been learning about animals including humans as part of their Science unit.

We’d like children to create a piece of work, which demonstrates their knowledge of this unit. Children can choose how they’d like to present this information e.g. a poem, piece of artwork, a video report etc and upload it onto the Y4 homework blog.

Here is some information to help them: Y4 Science Animals including Humans

Inverted Commas

To help your child with their understanding of inverted commas this week, why not encourage them to dance to this Supermovers video:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks2-english-inverted-commas-with-mr-smith/z62rhbk

Parents can join in too!
