Reception’s Brilliant ‘Belonging Boxes’!

Today in RE, Reception shared the BRILLIANT ‘Belonging Boxes’ they had created over the half term holidays.

The children shared their belonging boxes with the class and talked about what their box tells us about them and where they ‘belong’ in the world.

We looked at similarities and differences between everyone’s boxes and celebrated how everyone is different.

We then thought carefully about which kind of ‘belonging’ matters to them most. We discussed how belonging to families might matter more than belonging to a city, but both have their place.

Look at our ‘Belonging Boxes’. Aren’t they fantastic!

Harvest

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we originally posted out at the beginning of October, this year for Harvest, we are collecting as usual. In the spirit of supporting our immediate community, we have decided that we want to support our own school community in these times of ever-increasing cost of living for everyone.

We will be collecting non-perishable donations (tins of food, toilet rolls, toiletries etc.) for a ‘give and take’ bank – hence the name GATEway (Give And TakE)!

With the contributions that are generously shared by families, staff and governors, we will be setting up a regularly replenished box of non-perishable items – into which you can add items (box 1) if you can; or take items (box 2) should you need. These boxes will be outside the main office in the parent shelter.

If you can give something, please add it to the box. The box will be based on trust and not manned, and we are very much hoping that it may support those in need as we move into the winter months and while the cost of living is ever more.

Our project will begin with a Harvest Dress Down Day which will take place on Thursday 3rd November. Children can come in their own clothes in return for a donation.

The Gateway bank will begin to be operational from Monday 7th November when you can bring additional items / take items from the ‘Give and Take’ boxes.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Reception’s Earth Day

Today at Newdale we celebrated ‘Earth Day’. We all came to school wearing blue and green to represent the Earth and we took part in some exciting ‘Earth Day’ activities in our classroom.

This morning in Reception we had a visit from ‘Morris Magpie’. Morris the magpie brought a HUGE pile of rubbish into our classroom that he had found dropped outside. Morris told us a story about why it’s important to recycle our rubbish and with a bit of help from Mrs Sturrock he taught us all about sorting our rubbish and recycling it so it can be reused again.

After we had learnt all about the importance of recycling we helped Morris the magpie sort the rubbish he had brought into our classroom. We sorted plastic, glass, fabric, metal and cardboard. We then carried out some other activities linked to recycling including colouring in, making posters, role playing working at the Recycling Centre and cutting, sticking and sorting some recycling pictures. It was great fun!

We are all going to work extra hard now at home and school to recycle and help protect and care for our planet.

Reception’s Earth Day Award

Congratulations to Oscar who is Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Evans’ ‘Earth Day Star of the Week’ this week. Oscar has been chosen for working hard on all activities during ‘Earth Day’ today and for his excellent explanation of recycling and what it is. Oscar also worked very hard to sort recyclable materials into the correct ‘recycling bins’. Well done Oscar. You have shown you are thinking very carefully about how to protect and care for our planet.
