E-Safety – VTech Smart Watches

We have noticed since returning to school that a number of children are wearing VTech watches during school hours.

The watch itself has a camera on it which means it can record at any given time. The welfare of our children is paramount and therefore, due to the safeguarding risk, these watches will be banned in school. If a child comes into school wearing a VTech watch, it will be taken off them and returned at the end of the day.

E-Safety Top Tip- Safer Internet Day 2023

Safer Internet Day 2023 will take place on the 7thĀ of February 2023, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ā€˜Want to talk about it?Ā Making space for conversations about life online’.

Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees thousands of organisations get involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

This year we are hoping to answer the following questions:

  • What issues really matter to children and young people?
  • What changes do they want to see?
  • How can we all work together to advocate for them moving forward?

With your help, Safer Internet Day 2023 can be a springboard for conversations that shape how we talk about and respond to online issues, not just for one day, but throughout the whole year.

Using tailored learning materials, tips and resources for all ages, Safer Internet Day challenges everyone to play their part in fostering supportive relationships and respectful communities online. So why not have that conversation with your child this weekend. What online games do they play? Who do they talk to? Do they know how to report any incidents which might occur online?

E- Safety Top Tip – Online Scam #deets #square

Have you ever noticed the hashtags #deets or #square?

“deetsā€ is slang for bank details and a ā€œsquareā€ is a credit or debit card. Young people are becoming victims by handing over their bank details online to fraudsters in exchange for money.

Here are some top tips below to avoid your child from becoming a victim to the above scam.

  1. Check Children’s bank statements with them regularly ensuring every transaction can be accounted for.
  2. Make sure they know not to give anyone their PIN, passcode, or password, even to someone claiming to be from their bank or the Police.
  3. If a child comes home with new clothes, trainers, electronic devices or other items that cannot be accounted for, ask them how they got the money to purchase them.
  4. Explain that allowing someone else to use their bank details, regardless of how attractive or plausible the offer is a potentially a serious criminal offence that could damage their financial future.
  5. Teach them the simple rule that if it looks to good to be true, then it probably is.

Year 2- Nativity Costumes

We are so proud of the children in Year 2 for learning their lines and singing beautifully.

Just a quick reminder that the children need to bring in their costume tomorrow (Friday 25th November), ready for their performance next Friday. If you are having problems finding or sourcing part of the costume, please let a member of the Year 2 team know.

Thank you for your continued support.

Be SMART Cup- Miss Hill’s Class

Congratulations to my Be SMART cup winners for having a fantastic week last week. All of the children have come back to school after half term with a really positive attitude and are working extremely hard. The children have decided that as a treat, they would like to bring their own slippers and a teddy into school whilst watching a short film and having hot chocolate.

We will therefore celebrate this on Friday 18th November. Please can your child bring in a mug for their hot chocolate- we will provide the hot chocolate.

Thank you,

Miss Hill and Mrs Hawley :)
