Dear Parents/carers,

Soon, we look forward to welcoming Buddy Bear back to Newdale for a visit! He likes to check that all the children are feeling safe and happy in school. Some of the ways we ensure this happens are below:

  • The best way to find out how the children feel is to ask them! We carry out regular pupil voice sessions using a wide cross section of pupils, and ensuring they are different every time. We might ask about what they like or would like to improve about their learning or what ideas they have to further improve the school.
  • Our Safeguarding Champions are visible to all pupils through their bright red jumpers – their role is to be ambassadors for the pupils: children of their own age who they can go to with worries, problems or solutions!
  • Last year, you may have noticed that we updated our BeSMART code to include Behaviour – as we are so proud of all children’s excellent behaviour in school, we wanted to celebrate the Be of Behaviour! Alongside the positivity of all teaching staff, our pastoral team do an excellent job in supporting with this and ensuring everyone feels listened to.
  • Our weekly Achievement Assembly gives every pupil the opportunity to strive to be the best they can be, as well as the time to come together as a whole school team, recognising the contributions made by everyone in school.
  • Daily assemblies include two based solely on the BeSMART code and Safeguarding… these are valuable opportunities to discuss kind friendships, road safety, e-safety to name a few. Our safeguarding champions and school parliament are often involved in these assemblies too.
  • We also celebrate British Values every Wednesday and Thursday (and regularly in class), looking at current affairs and how it impacts all our lives. We want to help you to grow your children into citizens for the future. Alongside this, our extra-curricular opportunities such as residential trips, cinema and theatre experiences, regular visitors to the school, walks around the local area, family events and so much more ensure we support your child’s wider development.

Our website is full of information to inform parents and visitors about our curriculum offer. For more information about our curriculum, please look at your child’s class page as well as the subject pages online. Finance & Personnel Committee Meeting

On Wednesday, Governors reviewed the staffing structure and the whole school staffing strategy moving forward. Governors carried out a ‘deep dive’ of the induction process by speaking to a new member of staff and were reassured that the process is robust.

Governors were delighted with the Year 3 children’s attitude towards school and the excitement shown about the move to Key Stage 2.

Governors agreed the recent appraisal recommendations and spent time analysing the school finances and future strategic financial planning.

Reminder – Halloween Event in school

Dear Parents/Carers,

We will be holding a free Halloween School Event on Thursday 26th October 2023 after lunch.  Children are welcome to change into their Halloween outfits or simply dress down after lunch (please label all items). Staff will be running a disco in the hall and carrying out Halloween fun events in the classroom. Children will go home in their outfits.

We appreciate that not all parents want their children to take part in Halloween events. If that is the case, please do let your child’s teacher know through the home school communication book. We will prepare something non-Halloween themed for them to enjoy.

Advice from Health Protection Hub

With half-term approaching you may be considering taking your child/children on a farm visit

All animals naturally carry a range of micro-organisms, some of which can be transmitted to humans, where they may cause ill health. Some of these, such as E. coli O157 or Cryptosporidium (Crypto), have the potential to cause serious illness which may be particularly severe in young children  We see many cases of Crypto each year in the Health Protection Hub, particularly among children, and it’s a miserable experience for them and their parents.

Follow these practical steps to help keep your child safe and healthy:

  • avoid touching faces or putting fingers in mouths while in farm environments
  • don’t kiss farm animals or allow children to put their faces close to animals
  • wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching animals, fences or other surfaces in animal areas
  • don’t eat or drink while touching animals or walking round the farm and only eat and drink in picnic areas or cafes
  • wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating or drinking
  • remove and clean boots or shoes that might have become soiled and clean pushchair wheels, then wash hands thoroughly with soap and water
  • don’t use gels or wipes instead of washing hands with soap and water – gels and wipes don’t remove E. coli O157 or Crypto
  • supervise children closely to make sure they wash their hands thoroughly
  • if someone in the family has diarrhoea or vomiting after visiting a farm or animal visitor attraction, wash all dirty clothes, bedding and towels in the washing machine on the hottest wash cycle possible. Encourage good hand hygiene after using the toilet, washing hands thoroughly with soap and running water. Clean toilet seats, toilet bowls, flush handles, taps, hand basins and any other areas that might have been soiled with detergent and hot water, rinsing with household disinfectant.  Visit the doctor and explain that they have had recent contact with animals.  Please also contact the attraction you visited and inform them of the illness
