Covid update 21.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately, the positive Covid 19 cases in Telford and Wrekin are standing at the third highest in the West Midlands and are very high in comparison to other areas in England.

We have pockets of positive cases in school but are implementing everything we can in order to limit the spread. We will let you know if we need to reinstate any further measures before we return after half term.

We really do hope that the half term break and the vaccination program in secondary schools will help to slow things down for us all.

There has been a change to the advice we are given as listed here –

‘Household or close contacts of a positive case are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

LFD test kits can be ordered online for delivery or collected via a local pharmacy.’

Our teams in school are working so hard in trying to identify the onset of symptoms in school and making sure children are being sent home straight away in order to protect other children and staff. It is so important that you support us in trying to identify potential Covid 19 cases early. Please do not send your children into school if you feel they could be displaying symptoms. Full PCR tests are the only way to be sure and we ask that if we recommend you to get one, that you do so please. We have had cases where parents tell us it is ‘just a cold’ to then discover it is actually Covid 19 and of course at this point the damage has been done and the virus spread.

If you need help in getting PCR tests organised or help in ordering LFD tests, please do ring the office 01952 387720. You can book tests here www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

We need to know if anyone tests positive at any time but also for the first 4 days during half term. If you could inform the office on Newdale.primary@taw.org.uk but also let your child’s teacher know through the year group email that would really help us to support the track and trace process.

Online Safety Warning – Squid Game advice for parents

It has been brought to our attention that some children have been watching a new Netflix series called Squid Game.  May we remind parents that this series is rated as a 15 due to its adult content.

It is vital that you monitor what your child is watching online and we recommend that they watch TVs and devices in a communal room at home rather than in their bedrooms.

It is a good idea to set up a Netflix Kids experience profile so you can be sure that they are watching only child-friendly programmes.  There are many other ways to keep your child safe when using Netflix.  Please read the safety tips below:

If you have any concerns or need further advice, please contact a member of the Newdale team.

Covid Update 15.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

We continue to battle the virus in our school community and continue to rely on parents supporting us at home.

Please do not send your children into school if they are displaying Covid 19 symptoms

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

You need to get a PCR test booked straight away please and let us know the result.

There has been some changes in the advice we have been given as listed here …

For pupils identified as household or close contacts by Test and Trace:

  • Household or close contacts of a positive cases are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

This is a request and though it is not issued by law, we ask you to help us in keeping control of the virus in our school.

We are ever hopeful that the vaccine rollout in secondary schools will impact the transmission rates from older siblings to Newdale children.

Rest assured we continue to do all we can to keep your children virus free.

Newdale Families – Religion Census October 2021

We hope you have all settled back into the school routines for this academic year. My name is Miss McCullagh and this year I will be co-ordinating Religious Education at Newdale.

To help us understand more about our families, we would really like an updated picture of the different religions, beliefs and values held by the children, and families, within our Newdale community. This will support us in ensuring that our Religious Education offer is as inclusive as possible for our community.

We would be really grateful if you could spend 5 minutes completing the survey below, by Tuesday 19th October.

Thank you in advance, for you support 😊

Telford & Wrekin Covid Update

Dear parents and carers

We are writing to you so that you know how we are working with schools to manage Covid-19 and what you can do to help.
With the virus circulating in our communities, we are seeing an increasing number of cases in our schools.
This is something that is happening across the country.
Where there is a number of positive cases in a school, the government has provided guidance that sets
out the measures that should be taken to further minimise the spread of the virus. Our health protection
team uses this guidance to advise borough schools about how to manage Covid outbreaks.
Step up, step down measures
Where they are needed, your school will put temporary measures in place to reduce the spread of the
virus.
These ‘step-up’ measures could include recommending PCR testing for children in affected groups, reintroducing ‘bubbles’ whereby classes are separated and consideration of the use of face coverings (only
where it is appropriate to do so). Other measures may include limiting parental attendance in settings and
providing virtual transition or taster days. All measures will be implemented with consideration and focus
on minimal disruption to the children involved.
Your school will inform you of any step-up measures if they need to be introduced.
As soon as the number of cases at a school reduces, these measures will be stepped down again.
It is likely that schools in Telford and Wrekin, and those up and down the country, will need to use ‘step
up’ measures on and off throughout the year.
How you can help
To keep education and family life moving in Telford and Wrekin, we need everyone’s help.
Some practical things you can do to reduce the spread of the virus include:
• If your child has Covid symptoms, however mild, please keep them off school and book a PCR test
at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
• Check household members for Covid twice a week at home with lateral flow tests, even if you are
feeling well.
• If a member of your household has Covid, book a PCR test for all other members of the household.
• Remember hands-face-space and fresh air.
By making the above part of your routine, even if you have had your Covid vaccinations, you can help to
stop the spread and keep your school community enjoying the things they love.
Thank you for all the efforts you and our schools are putting into tackling the virus.
Let’s all keep life moving in Telford and Wrekin.

Yours faithfully
Helen Onions
