Covid update 21.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately, the positive Covid 19 cases in Telford and Wrekin are standing at the third highest in the West Midlands and are very high in comparison to other areas in England.

We have pockets of positive cases in school but are implementing everything we can in order to limit the spread. We will let you know if we need to reinstate any further measures before we return after half term.

We really do hope that the half term break and the vaccination program in secondary schools will help to slow things down for us all.

There has been a change to the advice we are given as listed here –

‘Household or close contacts of a positive case are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

LFD test kits can be ordered online for delivery or collected via a local pharmacy.’

Our teams in school are working so hard in trying to identify the onset of symptoms in school and making sure children are being sent home straight away in order to protect other children and staff. It is so important that you support us in trying to identify potential Covid 19 cases early. Please do not send your children into school if you feel they could be displaying symptoms. Full PCR tests are the only way to be sure and we ask that if we recommend you to get one, that you do so please. We have had cases where parents tell us it is ‘just a cold’ to then discover it is actually Covid 19 and of course at this point the damage has been done and the virus spread.

If you need help in getting PCR tests organised or help in ordering LFD tests, please do ring the office 01952 387720. You can book tests here www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

We need to know if anyone tests positive at any time but also for the first 4 days during half term. If you could inform the office on Newdale.primary@taw.org.uk but also let your child’s teacher know through the year group email that would really help us to support the track and trace process.

Covid Update 15.10.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

We continue to battle the virus in our school community and continue to rely on parents supporting us at home.

Please do not send your children into school if they are displaying Covid 19 symptoms

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

You need to get a PCR test booked straight away please and let us know the result.

There has been some changes in the advice we have been given as listed here …

For pupils identified as household or close contacts by Test and Trace:

  • Household or close contacts of a positive cases are asked to take LFD tests daily for a period of 7 days from the start of what would have been their self-isolation period.  This is in addition to the PCR they will have been recommended to take.

This is a request and though it is not issued by law, we ask you to help us in keeping control of the virus in our school.

We are ever hopeful that the vaccine rollout in secondary schools will impact the transmission rates from older siblings to Newdale children.

Rest assured we continue to do all we can to keep your children virus free.

Covid Information for Nursery Parents/Carers

Dear parents / carers,

We are finding that there are some children who are coming into Nursery suffering from symptoms which may be a sign that they may have the Covid-19 virus.

If children come into Nursery with a main symptom e.g. coughing, then they will be sent home and are advised to have a full PCR test. This guidance is from the Health protection hub and is in place to try to minimise the spread of infection.

The latest covid guidance for Telford and Wrekin can be found here – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Telford & Wrekin Council

Main symptoms are listed as

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

Precautionary symptoms on here are outlined as

You are advised to book a COVID-19 test as a precaution, if you are showing some other symptoms that you might have this virus, such as:

  • headaches
  • aches and pains
  • feeling very tired for no good reason
  • sore throat
  • runny nose
  • sneezing
  • tummy ache in children.

We will always follow the guidance from the hub to keep our staff and pupils as safe as possible.

Thank you for your continued support

Cinderella’s ball

On Friday 15th October, as part of our fairy tale theme, we will be holding a ball. We have been learning about Cinderella and will have our very own party in mighty oaks as a culmination of that learning. If your child attends our Friday sessions they are invited to dress up in party clothes or fancy dress outfits. Please send coats as usual to play outside in and sensible shoes. Thank you in advance for your support.

Mrs Lisa Curnow

Wonderful Wednesday

On Wednesday 29th September the mighty oaks nursery children will begin to use the forest areas. Half of the children go to the woods in the morning and the other half go in the afternoon. The children who remain in nursery will be having great fun cooking. When it’s your child’s turn to go to the woods the will need to bring in wellies (with their name written in them). Please ensure your child has clothes on that you are happy for them to get a bit muddy. We will provide waterproofs.

Until half term, for the next few weeks, the following children will be going to the woods:

In the morning orange, blue and purple group. That is Miss Preston’s, Mrs Curnow’s and Mrs Ferriday’s groups.

In the afternoon yellow, red and green group. That is Mrs Turner’s, Mrs Giordano’s and Mrs Hall’s group.

If you are unsure which group your child is in please just ask at the gate.

Update 21.9.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are enjoying this late in the season sunshine. I know the children are loving being outside and many are making great use of our new sports facilities!

In comparison to many schools we are coping well, by way of the number of positive cases we have. That said, we are definitely seeing an increase.

It is so important that you do not send your children into school if they are displaying any symptoms, including any of the precautionary symptoms listed by Telford and Wrekin Council. (Please see the following link Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Do you have main COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms? – Telford & Wrekin Council ) You need to keep them at home and get them PCR tested before risking a spread of the infection in school please.

If your child tests positive you need to make sure you inform the school as we also have to inform the health hub.  This is so that we can plan what actions to take in school.

We really do need to work together on this to prevent us having to reintroduce some of the more rigid procedures again.

Kind regards and fingers crossed,

PE

We are excited to let you know that the nursery children are going to have outside PE sessions with sports coaches on Tuesday mornings.  The sports coaches are called Mr Stone and Mr Birch.  The nursery team will of course be accompanying the children and joining in!  Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for example trainers and jogging bottoms or leggings.  They do not need a PE kit and need to come dressed in their sporty gear to nursery that day.  We will post lots of pictures to let you know how much fun they are having.

Thanks for your support

Mrs Curnow
